Question for you basketball SMEs.

I'm taking Onlythe10s' lead and creating a wax pack shadow box featuring packs from my birth year for my office.

Were there no Topps basketball cards released in 1983/84? I can't find a pack anywhere, of any brand, Topps, Star, Fleer, so on.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that Topps did not make basketball cards from 82 to 91, starting back up in 92-93.

I'm no basketball card nut, but I don't think any major companies put out cards in 83, 84, or 85. Maybe STAR in 85 or something like that, but no Topps for sure.

Star made some small bagged team sets (arena sets they're called, I believe) in '83, then a full set in '84 (which has had problems around being re-issued later). But Topps' last year was '81-'82, then there's no others until Fleer in '86, so Star was it for that in between period.

And the Star sets were NOT issued in packs at all. They were only issued in individually bagged team sets. Same goes for the specialty sets they made - Slam Dunk, Olympic, etc.

I'm sorry but your out of luck for 1983-84. There are no cards for those years, unless maybe those star cards, but not sure about those. PSA dosen't even grade those, so I never really payed any attension to those cards.

Hope you come up with something for your frame image

According to Beckett, these are basketball sets that were from 1983-1984.

Not much (if any) in way of pack wrappers to display.

The early to mid 80's were slim pickings for NBA cards. I think that has alot to do with the mass production of the late 80's early 90's basketball cards. People were starving for new cards.

Thanks for the info everyone, much help!

I'll just stick with the Topps football and baseball, Donruss baseball, Fleer football and baseball, and OPC baseball and hockey.

Should make a nice display piece. Just have to round up the OPC.

    Thanks again.

    Oh and Ross,

You can get this Shadowbox at any Wal Mart store for like $15. It even comes with double sided velcro.

Cool, hope it comes in black.

I'm going to have them matted as well. I've slid the ones I have in 180 pt top loaders like yourself. I'm going to cut matting frames for the 7 packs and cover the matting with an old sports section from a 1983 news paper.
