Help on 1882-O Morgan Die Crack & O/S Mintmark...(Date added)

LeeBoneLeeBone Posts: 4,593 ✭✭✭✭✭
On the Obverse, there is an entended die crack from the 6th star to the left of the date that goes all the way into the neck of Ms. Liberty.

On the Reverse, I think that the bottom part of an "S" can be seen on the inside, towards the bottom, of the "O" mintmark.

Any help with this will be appreciated.

  • Please add a closeup of the date.....there's a lot of left/tilted mm VAM's for this date.

Seen that one around. It is very similar to the VAM-17A, which can be differentiated by its radial crack through the first U of PLURIBUS, a spectacular late state that is surprisingly not as rare as one would expect.

    More help?
  • I would have to go with VAM 17 on this one.....the 2 is too clean still for the SC but does have the chip in the upper area and the lower gouge in the MM

  • Not stealing the thread, but here is the 17A....it's VERY distinct...especially the clash at the neck and the back of the hair.

It is definitely not the VAM-17 or 17A. I have seen it around though quite a number of times and it could easily be mistaken for the 17A to the uninitiated.
