Willie and the Mick have finally found thier final resting place. After so many years of living in the raw I finally decided to send them out for grading.I am glad I finally had the courage to let them leave home.

Great looking cards! Those type of cards should be slabbed in my opinion anyways, at least for the protection and authenticity.
  • Nice cards!!! Are those print lines on the Mantle? Are those the only thing keeping it from around a PSA 5 (just a quick opinon on the 5). I have around 110 of the '51 Bowmans, unfortunately no stars. Maybe someday I'll try and put the whole set together, but too many other projects right now. I'll tell you what though, you're two cards there would be a great addition to any '51 set!!!!

Great cards. Why does the 51 Mantle often have those vertical lines? Seems like a lot of times they run through his face. I have seen many with that same problem.
  • A 1951 Mays is a card on my want list.

Very cool cards, the grades wouldn't bother me one bit.

That would make a great start to the 1951 Bowman set.

It's like a burlap curtain/makeshift backstop I believe, RIM. That's what I've always loved about the early painted Bowmans -- tiny little artistic detail touches -- the rope through the grommet, the green barn in the background -- beautiful. The Mick, with his spindly trees and lone telephone pole. They just make the cards, to my eye.

Thanks for sharing your treasures, fiveniner!

'nother nice trivia note, you can tell from the very slight edge of the number on Mick's back, he's wearing the #6 originally assigned to him to continue the 3-4-5 legacy of Ruth, Gehrig and DiMaggio. Later on after being sent back to the minors, he'd return and find himself wearing #7. image
  • Damn, they are some beautiful cards, VERY SHARP!!!!! Thanks for sharing the scans!!!
