Very nice looking 1853 With Arrows half dime. Notice the strong clashing on the reverse, where you can actually read the inverted date numerals in TES OF of the legend.
They that can give up essential Liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither Liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin

Thanks. I've seen that there are others with the same strong clashing where you can see the date. It makes you wonder how many of them were actually made like this. There must have been quite a few.

First off, I like the coin.

Secondly, the grade I had in my head for this coin was AU-53/55.
I'm a REALLY surprised PCGS gave it a 58. Unless this coin comes weakly struck like this or the clashing had an impact, I think PCGS overgraded it.

That's just my opinion and please don't take it the wrong way.

Edited to add: I think I'll need to re-look at my Seated Half-Dimes image

No offense taken at all. The seated stuff I struggle with. I received back a PCGS submission today that included the NO Arrows 1853 "P" Half Dime. It got graded VF30 which was about my guess; but there was also both the "O" and "P" halves that graded much better than I figured (not that I'm complaining). The Dollar graded lower than I thought. After seeing what the halfs graded it made me think I need to re-look at the rest of mine as well... image
