Opinions on Stereoscopic Coin Microscopes?
I'm going blind with my 10x loupe!
Some VAMmers have mentioned using stereo microscopes. So I Google that and now the research is as overwhelming as that of buying an HDTV. I have a Coinscope that I bought in 2002, but it's outdated.
Now that I'm into VAMs and busty halves, I need something that will pick out the minute details of these coins.
I'm not a dealer and don't want top of the line models. Anyone have a suggestion on a reasonably priced unit/manufacturers, etc.?
Thanks,
Bob

Although these are very useful,(everyday I use mine) the newer cam/microscope thats being talked about here seems amazing and a bargain.
My zoom scope costs north of $500. Granted it has paid for itself in a short time, its bulky and very heavy.
Look around for one that fits your needs. Theyre alot of different types that kick butt.
I would look into this Dino-lite contraption that everyone has been talking about...I'm saving my money for that baby!

I haven't seen a full coin shot yet but plenty of close ups have been posted on these boards.

For the stereo scope, be sure you factor in a camera mount as there will be many things you see through that scope that you will want pictures of. Shooting through the eye piece works but getting consistent pictures with that method is troublesome! Plus you run this risk of scratching your camera lens.

I got the Zoom Stero scope about a year ago. Expensive, but it's perfect for VAMs. Camera attachments are extra, but worth it.

But then I remembered we are all going to get a check from Uncle Sap to stimulate the economy. Perhaps I should stimulate a sale for one of these companies! Thanks for all the recommendations. Decisions, decisions...

I've been using an old Bausch from the 1920's to search for varieties and have often wished for something I could usb to the computer.
