1961 Fleer Basketball Prices?

Can anyone tell me if 1961 Fleer Basketball PSA graded cards typically sell for more than SMR value, and if so, by what %? My brief search of current/ended auctions on Ebay and the fact that there are 58 active sets tells me they probably do sell for more than SMR.
I ask because I am contemplating putting together a set in PSA 5 or better condition. I'm a little nervous about this venture for a couple of reasons - 1. I will be shelling out more coin for this set than I have for any memorablia I own and 2. Being a mostly modern collector (70s and 80s), I don't have much experience in dealing with mid-grade cards - it's easy to know what 9s and 10s should look like, but 5s and 6s kind of baffle me.
It's just the set is so appealing to me, I feel like I have to give it a shot, realizing that my timeframe to complete it will have to be measured in years, not months.
