You could likely finish that sentance with "I'd have paid 10x more for this coin!"
I have lots of scratched coins that would have cost a fortune if they were clean. Heck, most of my 7070 tough coins are scratched, slightly bent, or holed!
No better way to afford a rare coin!

Thats a shame, I wonder who and when that was done, looks like old scratches. I was at a coin shop a few weeks ago and seen a really nice original 1827 dime in EF 40 or so grade that was just what I was looking for marked $70. I thought WOW! I got out my glass and looked a little closer and it had a W scratched in the obverse field. I passed but still think about it because it was so nice and the W was fairly light but I figured all I would see every time I looked at it was the scratched W.
