63T - Chicago Bears Team card - an introduction to "early" interactive technology

I think it's cool how they gave kids some "interactive" stuff even in 1963.

Here's the card:

and the back comic part:

As you can see - ya gotta place a red cellophane thingy to see the pic - now that's action back in 1963! I mean no refractors, no dufex, no full bleed, no UV coating - just plain ole cards.

Oh - and if ya wanna see what's in the background - I have the original pen & ink that comes with the card:

Ya gotta love this stuff - right?

    Thanx Steve

I was just doing some organizing and saw the card and the "game" of sorts on the back.

Kids today have a much bigger expectation when it comes to things - I don't think Topps can compete with today's technology!

I remember those as a kid.

Didn't topps have other cards with questions that had the answers on a different card? I remeber something like that.

    So who holds the record?

I guess ya supposed to get it with the red cellophane - but it's not on the preproduction pen & ink.
    So - I don't know?

Actually - that "idea" was very UNpopular with kids back then. Notice, I don't believe Topps ever tried that again.

If I'm remembering right, a "red celephane" came enclosed in each wax pack - in which kids threw that out almost as quickly as they threw out the wrapper.
  • Topps did a set in 1952 with the red celophane, Look N See. Here is the Ruth from that set with the original
    celophane.

As you can see the celo didn't help all that much.
