A while ago, someone mentioned about using a gold Buffalo as a pocket piece. Has anyone done so?
  • Why not? I heard a collector that owned a 1913 Liberty Head Nickel used to carry it around in his pocket to win bar bets by claiming he had the worlds most expensive nickel in his pocket image

All my pocket pieces are in air tites. Got a couple of 1 oz gold and a couple of 1 oz platinum as pocket pieces du jour. image
    trozau (troy ounce gold)
  • If someone donates one to me I'll carry it around for them
  • I was thinking about doing this with an unc Jefferspouse but couldn't bring myself to do it.

    FLBuffaloHunter:

The collecter was J.V. McDermott. He used to carry the coin in his pocket and show it off in bars. Aubrey Bebee, a dealer who made his money primarily selling classic commemoratives, and his wife purchased the coin at auction. Eventually they donated it to the ANA, where it resides today.

I'll be first. Can I keep it in the capsule? image
  • It'll be worth more and look better as a P-01. Might as well leave it in the pocket for about 10 years or so.

So, how do you imagine the .999nine gold would handle being carried about, scratched on, and dropped?
Make me a believer and I may try.

  • Ha ha ha! I actually considered that. Then I remembered the Mint also makes the gold spouses as 1¼" bronze medals. Not gold, but they'll do...

    To paraphrase Mae West.

"Is that a slab in your pocket,

or are you just happy to see me?"

Imagine how much it would be worth as a PO-1? image
  • Not a slab! The mint also sells medal boxes perfectly sized for their medals. As for "happy to see you" - got any cool toned Pilgrims for sale? image
