Inflationary coins

Looking through some random foreign stuff, I noticed a 500 peso coin.
Made of base metal and seemingly not worth much of anything on it's own, I figure
it must have been a product of a currency collapse.

Anyone have anymore examples of small coins with HUGE denominations? It
might be kind of neat to start a little collection of such.. and i can't imagine it
costing much to put it together.

Of course the German coins after WW I are there too. There's a 200 M coin made in aluminum.

Turkey had some very impressive denomination coins 5-8 years ago. 25,000 Lira the size of a dime, 50,000 Lira also the size of a dime, 100,000 Lira the size of a nickel, 500,000 Lira the size of a nickel, 750,000 Lira slightly larger than a nickel.

For coins minted for collectors, silver commemorative coins up to a face value of 150,000,000 Lira.

I was there in 2002(?) and it was very surreal trying to figure out the cost of items in terms of "real" money. Very hard to tell the value of some of the coins since not all the coins had all the 0's on them, ex: 250 Bin Lira was 250,000 Lira.

Edit: looking in my records the largest denomination coin I brought back were 2-2002 250,000 Lira coins

interesting info. you hear a lot about currency's, lately zimbabwe, and see the bills:


but i guess i'd never stopped to think about the coins, figuring most places would cease minting
during such a volitile time.

almost packed that 500 peso coin up for a gift, but then thought, hmm.. it's not everyday
you see a coin the size and composition of a quarter with a such a large denomination, so i tucked it
back as an oddity.
