Next great rare coin opportunity: Blanchard says

I received the Blanchard update. Interesting that in the last couple days I've also received a request for an MS-64 Panpac Round, an MS-63 Octagonal........

Blanchard email update:
Undervalued gold & silver commemorative coins at a remarkable price!

Rarely does an opportunity like this present itself: gold & silver commemorative coins at a substantially undervalued price.

The rare coin market is moving up fast and there is one area of the market still substantially under-valued, the Gold & Silver Commemorative coins. These gold and silver coins, in some cases, are less than 80% of their all time highs hit back in 1989. With so few available, you must act fast in order to take advantage of this series of coins.

Get your commemorative gold & silver coins today – call your Blanchard & Company, Inc. account representative today at 1-866-865-9177!

Commemorative coins, either created to commemorate important events or to provide payment for historical monuments or commemorative celebrations, play a fundamental and distinctive role in United States coinage. This element of commemorative coins appeals to the historical aspect of numismatics, and often attracts individuals who do not usually partake in coin collecting.

What do you all think of gold commems now and might as well reflect on the Blanchard promo. Opinions?

Well, some of the traditional commems in the MS64-65 range really have not moved much or participated in the so-called bull market to the degree other coins have. Many are attractive coins... has their time come? I dunno... However, I do think there are enough of them to be promoted the way 1882-1884-cc Morgans get promoted.

edited to ADD: I am not talking about the Pan Pac commems, but the more available ones... Stone Mountain, San Diego etc..

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

I don't think Blanchard owns any inventory. It's more or less a sales organization no ? ( I am not inferring anything negative by that statement by the way )

Common looking (not wildly toned), or common grade, even high grade (not super low pop) classic silver commems have had tons of potential for quite some time. Predicting just when expected values will be realized in this series has proven pretty much fruitless.

Gold commems have come in and out of favor - for dealers to hype only, from what I've witnessed.

In or out of favor... I like em... although "out of favor" makes em cheaper to acquire...

If a dealer builds a position of a certain type of coin because he thinks they're too cheap, and then he touts the coins to his clients as being too cheap, what has he done wrong?

All it takes is one market maker like Blanchard to strongly promote classic commems and the market will lift off.

It isn't like they posted here in the forum and tried to deceptively hype items they were selling - they sent a sales email to someone on their mailing list, and he posted it.

Can't blame Blanchard for that, can you?
  • percyb, nice play on words(dieing). I like that! Respectfully, John Curlis

Unless they had more than what they listed, they didn`t have that many commems. Don`t think they would be promoting with so few coins. David Lawrence has more than 10 times as many commems.

True, but I personally dislike it when dealers make future forecasts of what they think is going to be the next best investment and then happen to carry what they are positively forecasting. I guess dreams to come true.image >>

    1. The quality Commem Coins are too cheap.

    2. When will they reach their correct value?
    I don't know.

    3. Commem Coins are one of those series that
tends to be very cyclic ,with long periods of inactivity
However, when it explodes, as it will, it is an explosive
event. If you are patient and collect PQ examples, you will
do well with this beautiful series.

I wish Banchard had pictures of the CAC commems left on their website. The ones that sold went for premium prices.

    You are reading my mind.
I sold most of my gold bullion (4 oz) last week, and have already purchased several gold commems this week with plans to complete the set (w/o the $50s). And the way my luck has been going gold commems will be the next 1995-W Proof silver eagels.
