  • I love old small gold. Very nice coin. It has character. I do love gold that circulated for some reason. I think somewhere in the range of f-vf.

It should F-12 right on the money.

Another vote for a F12. Neat coin.

  • VF25 I think the details are just enough to make it through with this grade at PCGS.

Pics aren't that great, but I'll say Fine-15, based on 'em.

ANACS gave it a grade of VG08. It has a lower serial number and
the slab is slightly smaller then my old school ANACS slabs. It was
fun buying southern gold for 25 dollars over melt. thanks for the replies. i wish i could find more southern gold in this grade range
    at these price levels.

Interesting results and I'm surprised that it graded so low.

I still like the coin and it seems that you are very pleased with the look of it.

It seems grade inflation is alive and well. Maybe 291fifth would have
gotten the old school grade ;-)

Oh I wish every coin I owned had a truly original look to it. This coin
may have been boinked long ago but to me it is very acceptable at
the price level I paid. I like it also for the fact it is the tougher variety
of the date and it was conservatively graded.

In hand the coin has a regular gold color, slight patina remaining
in the crevices, and a well worn look. I would guess it got a bubble
    bath in the past.

I just realized that this was a small letters reverse w/ a mintage of 19,075 as opposed to the large letter reverse w/ a mintage of 82,000.

    That's one sweet deal!!! image

    Nice score.

    Is this new to you?
  • fcfc Posts: 12,793 ✭✭✭
yes. picked it up a few weeks ago. i love cheap southern gold slightly
    over spot and certified/graded conservatively.

also fixed the title. guess i the grade i guess.

must have been hitting the sauce that night ;-)

Perhaps the rims looked too weak for a F12 grade. VG8 seems alittle harsh

I agree that aside from the reverse rim being a tad bit weak the coin looks better than a VG8. It appears to have a very pleasant look to it and is a terrific value for the price paid.

F12... Just some slight weakness in LIBERTY.
  • Nice one! I like it a lot; it has a good look to it.
