OUCH, I spent big bucks on a war nickel and realize it is AU

bought from auction with crappy picks

HIGH BOOK VALUE - LOOK IT UP

image

It would go AU58 at PCGS

would that be systematic fraud for the slabber, or do they have a better (for them)
grading system

why is it the ones that make the most noise are the crookedest?

I hope when that lawsuit gets over, the judge throughs the originators in jail as well as all court costs

NNC slab would be enough to run. I always consider NNC overgraded from anywhere between 4-8 points.

with as many posts as you have around here i would have thought
you would be wise to the games these self slabbers play.

Is it truly fraud and not as described or might someone argue that it is a weak strike and truly MS? Since the working definition of MS grades has been largely left to the TPGs (and fake TPGs) to decide on their own, it could be difficult to prove intent.

Been pretty lucky in life. Before I knew about respected TPGS, I had bought a coin on eBay in an NTC holder that thankfully got lost in the mail, but was insured. Then I bought an ACG coin. Despite the seller's no refund policy, I still got a full refund without any arguing. Then I learned.

As for the OP, sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about this thanks to eBay's caveat emptor policy.

I must assume that an astute collector such as yourself would never have bought a crap graded coin from crappy photos without a full return privelege.
  • Ouch is right! Hopefully you can return for a refund. Otherwise, sorry. image
  • NNC's grading standards differ from first world TPG's by a significant margin.

I know they have crap - selling cleaned coins in NNC holders in europe now

big bucks was 10 bucks - was not eBay
    but another auction

I think if any auction house sells these things, I will boycott them unless there in person

along with ANI, NNNC, and some others I have seen
  • Is anyone really surprised?

That's a good one. Almost as good as Numistrust = New Mistrust. Not quite as hilarious, but I'll definitely remember it. image

When I first started collecting gold I bought some old segs holders. over half were counterfeit. For the life of me at the time I could not find any info on the grading company.

You bought the seg holders or the seg holders containing the coins?

There is NO way I would rate NTC (Numistrust) lower than NNC. I have another dozen (PCI gold label, ACG, & NTC) on my desk right now, and (once again) the NTC coins are more conservatively graded than PCI gold & ACG. Having said that, great deals can be had for (lower value) coins slabbed by all three of them.

    As for NNC, personally, I would not have them on this list, I would have them on a list with;
QVC/Quasar,USCG,CSI,APEX,NES,SNGA,INB,GEC,WCG,UGS,EAGC, and every other ebay seller/self slabber pretend grading service (I know, AH may sell his ACG slabs on ebay now, but he obviously didn't start out that way).

    No surprise about the nickel, as NNC (and others I listed with them) routinely "slab" cleaned and/or worn coins as MS-66, etc. If I had to make a list, it would look more like this;
    1 PCGS
    2 NGC
3 ANACS (depending on time period, could move up or down)
4 Hallmark/Early Green Label PCI (and recent Signature Series)
5 ICG (better than a few years ago and hope to see them ahead of ANACS soon)
    6 SEGS
    7 NTC
8 PCI Gold Label (hope to see the new DLRC owned PCI ahead of ANACS as well)
9 ACG (although, less likely to slab a problem coin than PCI Gold label era)

O.K., so your initial post was 'tongue in cheek' I guess. I sure hope so. The only thing suprising about this post is that the coin may grade as high as AU58. At least it would grade in your opinion. Most of the crap in those slabs wouldn't even make it into a major TPG slab regardless of grade.

NNC and similar 3rd tier graders are blocked on my ebay search list.
I won't even take the time to review them.
