They are actually quite nice and I like them.

    Yes, they are NT.

We need a little more humor around here.

    That 67 is amazing.

    Very nice indeed.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • Interesting

I have never seen coins in SMS set holders toned like that.

Sadly the 66 and 67 SMS holders are not sealed and the coins are easily removed and replaced.

The colors on yours are nice but i would suspect they were not original to those holders.

    Just my opinion tho.

Do you think they are PVC damaged? How does the NT happen if they are in Plastic? Just curious.

Those don't come in envelopes. They come in plastic holders that are easy to pop open and cook the coins - and that is done all the time.

But, as Deadhorse said in his followup post, they look NT. The Lincolns are particularly pretty.

A lot of these tone naturally and quite attractively even in the '65 set which isn't resealable.

I have no clue whether these are natural or not.

Just because many think they are NT doesn't mean they won't get BB'ed for "Questionable Color"......Hope the fees are worth it to you...do you plan on selling and so want a third party's opinion on the color that is more acceptable to potential buyers?

  • I sent them in hoping to get them in a multi holder. No real plans on selling them unless the price is right.
  • BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Ah. Most likely NGC.
Probably the right thing to do on both the toning AND the multiholder

I just don't see any case where slabbing these would even recover the grading fees. These are
available already slabbed in huge quantities with no risk about what the grade will be or even if it will slab.

as usual, the expert tpgs just guess if it is NT or AT.
they slab a bunch but dis one in the group. the most interesting
    one to boot.

    ironic.
  • BECOKABECOKA Posts: 16,961 ✭✭✭
That is disappointing. Did you send it in the mint packaging? If that's the case I wish TPG's would get a system together to realize they are NT. The problem usually is they get cut out and put into flips before they even get to the graders and they have no idea that they came straight from the mint packaging.

The only packaging these SMS came in were easily opened hard plastic cases.

That is how I sent them in. The part that upset's me is that the cent was deemed NT while the Half gets BB'd for AT. Why?

because experts just guess if a coin is AT or NT. simple answer really.
they think people are out there coloring common coins so they can
make a buck off their good name. you wanted them to grade and
authenticate the coin but instead they body bag it for odd colors.

    hilarious.
  • FrankcoinsFrankcoins Posts: 4,572 ✭✭✭
The grading companies will BB a coin for AT even if they KNOW it is NT if it looks different enough that people will THINK they slabbed an AT coin.

It's sad because some really great NT coins have to be dipped to get in a slab.

To clarify, the 1966 and 1967 sets were packaged in clones of the Whitman 5 coin snap-lock holders. The coins could be removed, messed with, or replaced with non SMS coins, and the holders could be snapped back together UNDETECTABLY. So there is no such thing as a SEALED holder and these coins are judged very harshly by the grading companies for that reason.

So if these would have been 65 sms the Half might have graded?
  • TomBTomB Posts: 22,090 ✭✭✭✭✭
The half and cent are of different metallic compositions so it is not unusual to have one bag and one slab. This is why I wrote that I believed the half would bag before you submitted it when I responded at NGC.
