By the grace of God...

So the card I was most looking forward to receiving finally came in the mail today. It's a 2007 Topps Chrome Baron Davis Xfractor 37/50. It was in a bubble mailer about 5 times the correct size and in only a PENNY SLEEVE wrapped with a piece of paper. I paid $4 for priority mail and the label on the outside said $.80. Uh.... By the grace of God this card somehow escaped the brutal death it certainly should've had. Amazing. This was my first scary mail incident minus an untaped top loader incident last fall. Anybody had crap like this happen lately? People need to use their brains.

  • I just had a 59Topps Aaron card sent to me by an Ebay seller who sent it in the plain white envelope --- without a toploader or penny sleeve! It had some nice corner dings and was promptly returned to the seller for a refund.
  • I recently paid $3.50 for shipping on a BJ Upton auto, and it came in a PWE with postage marked at $0.49. Thank god the card was ok since it was in a toploader.

I've had a few instances where the card was poorly shipped as described above. The sellers usually gave a refund, but not before giving their "I've been shipping like this for the last 30 years, and YOU are the ONLY person who has EVER had a problem."

The worst lately was 4 cards I got for about .25 each on Naxcom. In a white envelope, protected by a piece of paper that said "WANT SATALITE TV FOR FREE? ASK ME HOW!" I found 4 loose cards and 2 empty penny sleeves.

I bought a 41 doubleplay card and a 63 fleer brooks robinson from a guy in England. They came in a PWE wrapped in a kleenex. My lucky day, the doubleplay is a psa7 and brooks came back psa8.

Just hope when it's that card you can't replace that it avoids the mail scrunchers.

  • Haha wow. Yeah the "I've been doing this forever" line. I got that from a very well respected vintage card dealer last December. It seemed odd they'd try to single me out like that and make ME feel weird, but they gave the money back so whatever.

I'm doubting that your 07 Baron Davis had anything at all to do with God. I believe He's busy with other things.

Heh, I don't think an omnipotent and omnipresent being can ever be too busy.

  • The strangest shipment of cards I've ever received was a lot of about 30 2001 Heritage cards that I won on eBay. This fellow had put the lot between 2 top loaders and used about $5 worth of packing tape and scotch tape (sticky side towards the cards) to tape the toploaders tightly against the cards. They were wrapped in several layers of newspaper and put in a box with shipping peanuts. None of the cards were damaged, but I think it would have been worth a 50¢ plastic case to have saved all that tape!

I was recently sent a Chuck Knoblauch card in nothing but a top loader and a PWE. He made it here OK but I was so upset over it, I sent it off to someone else in the same fashion.
