Should we be able to put comments in for coins we do NOT have in our sets?

Things like:

"want to buy, offering $340"
"it is on the way, in 66RD"
"will trade wife for this one"

....

I would like to use the registry set as my "tracking", but sometimes when you buy a coin, you "forget" that it is on the way and might buy another one in the "heat of the moment".

  • That is a good idea. It could also let the other competitors that look at your registry comments see that you are going to upgrade or put a new coin in soon, and with that information they might run and buy a coin equal to the grade you are getting or better. It could work to either an advantage (as you stated in the above thread), or at an disadvantage. Another advantage is that coin dealers that look through the registry collections might see a comment for a coin you might need and give you an opportunity to purchase it (would benefit both the collectors and dealers). A big disadvantage in my eyes is that with the PCGS Set Registry being the best around and having a sound reputation, if some people put in "goofy" comments such as "Will trade wife for coin", it could hurt not only the reputation, but also the credibility for the PCGS Registry Set. I know that it would definetly heat things up within the registry race. I am all for it.

I would like to hear what the coin dealers have to say about this. Could get very interesting.

    Sincerely,
    Chris

If used correctly it would be a great tool for those wanting to let others know that they are looking for a certain coin. I like it.

They could always "limit" the comments to a number of canned responses.

    "looking to buy"
    "on the way"
    "looking for trade"
    ...
  • IMHO.....

I would think along the lines of no. I generally get a few emails/post from collectors and dealers who have offers for coins I need (or upgrades) several times a week. I have to agree with Boey that some of the comments may get a little goofy and detract? from the registry.

Then there is the entire PCGS editing/reviewing the comment section. I would rather have other information (i.e. values) presented since space is limited. If you have the 66 on the way, what's a few days. I know its a pain to wait and I want to add them right away, but then you need to pull the comment and it may delay the coin showing up while PCGS "reviews".

  • Personally, I just have started using my sig line to look for coins that I need for my sets. Although if that package from David Lawrence will get here, I can delete the Type 3 Gold Dollar I have listed. image
