Who were you..............

in those backyard wiffle ball games ?

I was usually Reggie Jackson or Mike Schmidt.
George Brett every once in a while too.
Yaz's batting stance was too hard to duplicate.

Jim Rice, Fred Lynn, and Dwight Evans all rolled into one since we usually only had one outfielder.

What were your rules ? Ours were.....

    1. Before the pitcher on the ground = OUT
    2. After the pitcher in the air = SINGLE
    3. Hit the house on the fly = DOUBLE
    4. Hit the upper part of the house = TRIPLE
    5. Hit it on the roof = HOME RUN ( and a silent prayer that the ball wouldn't get stuck in the gutter)

Ground balls that stopped before a player touched the ball was a single-always. Off the side of the house was always a "Boggsy off the wall" double, a HR had to be hit clear over the house. No triples were used... Good times!

    easy.

and when i pitched. Phil Niekro!

i have an amazing dancing wiffle knuckler image honest!

ball off the house was a ground rule double...ball into the right hand neighbors yard was an OUT, cause it was a pain in the ass to hop two fence and go through the bushes to get it.

ball over my backyard fence was a HR, but it was damn far. hard to do it.

When I was batting it was usually Paul Molitor or George Brett....when I was pitching it was Nolan Ryan,Jim Palmer, Vida Blue or Phil Niekro...I think there were probably more...but these are the names that are coming to mind immediately! Cool topic! image

mid to late 80s....I was Darryl Strawberry when I hit left handed (sometimes Rod Carew because of the stance image ) and Jose Canseco right handed. When I pitched, I was Dwight Gooden.

You can tell that the hobby influenced me! I was a Dodgers fan living in Southern California and I was imitating three guys that were at the top of the collecting world.

If we were playing in the yard with the short fence.... King Kong ... Dave Kingman!
In the big yard with no fence.... Pete Rose.
Pitching.... J.R. Richard then Nolan Ryan
Fielding.... those sweet stabs I remember ... I was Greg Nettles.
Playing football .... on offense... Walter Payton. If QB time... of course.. Bradshaw! Defense... Mean Joe Greene
Basketball .....Dr J. If that was taken... Wilt. If he was taken... Bird. But nobody really wanted to be the white guy!

Thanks for bringing back some great childhood memories!
