pretty good day for finding coins!

started off my day by getting this 1942 Mercury Dime back in my change from lunch (local mexican restaurant):

i quickly check to see if it's a 1941/2 but no such luck (although it is in a very nice albeit circulated grade)

then, later i have to run to the bank......well i'm at the counter where you fill out your deposit slips and reach down to throw away a slip of paper and i see what looks like a nickel in the trash can......now who would throw money away......i reach in to pick it out and i see other coins! a quick gathering reveals a dozen coins (11 foreign and 1 game token) that someone had thrown away......only a few feet away was an Automated Coin counter (similar to CoinSTar) and i can only guess that someone was throwing away the rejects......here's a pic:

let me know if you see anything rare and valuable as U.S. coins are my forte.....it makes me wonder if this a practice that the bank personnel employs.....next time i'm in there i think i will ask and if they're gonna throw it away can they just save it for me image

anyhow thought i would share

You got a nice deal on the dime!!

I think the Myrtle beach token is worth 3 plays of asteroidsimage

Just kidding...but I do wonder, if I set a box next to the coin star machine at my local grocery store for "discard foreign coins" what kind of gems one week collection would bring?

The 100 yen is a good find...when we switch to the yen as our national currency.

    It was a good day!
On the way to the B&M shop I stopped at a rural bank and they had $270 in rolled halves.
Yielded 4-90% halves and 20 of the 40%.

    2 words: YOU SUCK. LOL.

I have NEVER gotten a Merc in circulation or a roll, and can only remember finding one or two silver Roosies. I seem to have better luck with War nickels and I once hit a lucky hoard of 40% Kennedies at the credit union.

    Coins in the TRASH? Madness.

Congrats! That's a pretty lucky streak.

Good things, like bad, often happen in threes, y'know. So keep a sharp eye out for that next good score!

Not to mention, you got what, 80c in Canadian funds? Thats like pulling a $1 bill out of the trash!

That dime IS kickin' for a 'found in change' thing. VERY nice looking CircMerc (has that term been used before? Can I lay claim to having been the one who started it?)

Lordmarcovan......darkside stuff to Joe Q. Public, isnt 'money', and you know that, c'mon! If it gets kicked out of a CoinStar machine, only coin collectors pull it out and pocket it......I thought you knew that....

Aww, c'mon, even silly Litesiders like round shiny things, even if they can't read the writing on 'em... right?
