Mantle Home Run History Cards...I'm going to do it.

Anywho...I was just thinking about this today. Has anyone tried to piece together the Mickey Mantle Homerun History insert set? This thing has got to be huge! Just curious.

  • I'd probably go nuts. Just like trying complete the Yankees stadium history inserts in '08 UD.

What do you mean 'got erased'?

No I am not collecting new Mantles.

    Steve
    Good for you.

I guess you could quit the hobby. That seems to work for some people.

  • I quit this hobby!

ok, so what do you mean "what do you do know"? Im at a loss

    You still have the job?

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I was just being stupid. The mods erased the other thread and so they should. I was just goofing around. However, I am serious about the Mantles. I've thought about trying this, but I don't know if I have enough energy to concentrate on what seemingly would be a foolish project.

Also, and I am not condoning OT threads but did it occur to him that he could just create another thread?

    or use his sig line?

    Steve.

    Good for you.

Let's all change our sig lines to state that Guru got the job then we would all show that we do in fact KNOW and another thread would therefore not be required even if THIS current OT thread gets poofed.

Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

  • This thread isn't OT. I asked a question about cards.
  • Seriously guys, here's what's happend. A couple of weeks ago I realized that I've done some bad things by posting too much OT and reposting stuff. I'm very sorry for what I have done. I got on earlier today and noticed that my OT job post was gone. I had got on to post a question about the Mantle cards and just threw in that statement. I'm sorry if I've once again aggrevated you guys. I wasn't trying to do that on purpose. I will get back to card business once again. Sorry.

    Guru

You did not aggravate me that is for sure. if you think that this thread was not OT
because you asked a card question and want this thread to
be for that, then if I was you I'd change the title.

As it stands now the card question seems secondary.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • Title changed, first post edited. All's well. And gumbyfan, totally not trying to be technobailey here. Just trying to explain. That's all. Hope the changes prove that. Thanks guys.image
  • The wife and I were talking last night about my next card project. So, I've decided that once this job starts that I'm going to sell of all the overproduced 80's 90's stuff and use that money to start the process of collecting all the Home Run History cards. I know I said before it was a foolish and idiotic thing to do, but now that I think about it, it would be cool to have all of them together in some type of framed artwork to hang in my office at home or at the new job.
    I already have #1 so that's a start.

Haha, you got #1, you're half way there, lol. I hope your office is big, cuz that'd be one big piece of artwork. Let us know how you progress in this "Andre the Giant" undertaking. Maybe I'll start collecting the '08 UD Yankee Stadium inserts and we can go to the looney bin together.

These mantle HR history cards are they the ones that were inserts in 07 packs?

Or is this a new issue?

I have a few from last yr. They appear to me like 55 topps.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I believe they've been in packs since '06. They all kinda look the same, but just with different #'s.
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
Well good luck doing that whale.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • it's going to be interesting, i have probably about 100 at this point. I'm just glad I have #1 already. 1's always seem to be more expensive then the rest.
  • i have some. you can have them. PM me your address.

#1 was issued 4 per box IIRC

You can probably find a bunch of them for a dollar or less at shows, ebay lots, the occasional dealer, NAXCOM, etc.

I'd rethink the idea of framing them. You're talking about 536 cards - figure a 6' by 6' square or similarly sized rectangle for putting them all together. Put the set in a binder instead.

  • I sold a couple of lots of them on ebay, got a couple bucks for each lot, so I guess some people are collecting them. Big set though, but probably not too expensive, check ebay for lots.
