Review Submission Results- New half grade- Final Tally

Sent 61 cards in for review on various submission levels.

Here's the final tally on the upgrades I received:

LINE # CERT # CARD CARD CO. CARD # CARD NAME VARIETY GRADE
1 50044225 1933 SPORT KINGS 6 JIM THORPE FOOTBALL 7.5
4 31141714 1935 NATIONAL CHICLE 10 CLIFF BATTLES N/A 7.5
8 06528946 1952 BOWMAN SMALL 46 ART DONOVAN N/A 8.5
12 11114269 1958 TOPPS 90 SONNY JURGENSEN N/A 8.5
1 07066440 1950 BOWMAN 6 LOU GROZA N/A 8.5
3 06032097 1950 BOWMAN 35 JOE PERRY N/A 8.5
7 11957716 1951 BOWMAN 21 ARNIE WEINMEISTER N/A 8.5
14 03450327 1955 BOWMAN 2 MIKE McCORMACK N/A 8.5
19 31443547 1955 TOPPS 66 BRUISER KINARD N/A 8.5
27 40326552 1963 FLEER 10 NICK BUONICONTI N/A 8.5
32 11892268 1965 PHILADELPHIA 53 MEL RENFRO N/A 8.5
34 04394396 1972 TOPPS 244 CHARLIE JOINER N/A 10

Very happy with results, approx 20% bumpage...Most important factor, as it turns out, was not centering..But rather nice corners. That is what all of these have in common.

I don't believe you. I want submission numbers right now. Actually, I am not going to get into that again, so good luck with your cards, they seem nice.

Interesting, so just the corners had to be even stronger to get the bump?

I would have thought all aspects of the card needed to be stronger to get the bump.

Corners, centering, color, registration, and sides.

20% is better then I thought.

    Good job.

    Good for you.

Steve, I think they take all into consideration...In the initial write up announcing the new .5's PSA wrote that centering would be paramount. Not that corners would be meaningless, but that centering would play the biggest part. Based on my bumps, the only thing that ALL of them had in common were strong corners for the grade. Centering was all over the place, as was print/color registration. Just trying to provide a little insight to anyone else who might be sending in reviews as to what PSA is looking for.

Here are scans I have of most of the cards that were upgraded:

It has to be the scan playing tricks because it was an 8 and now is an 8.5, but Joe Perry's top right corner looks to be stressed/buckled.

I wouldn't have sent it if it had a stressed/buckled corner...I see what you are talking about though. Can't say for sure what the issue is there without holding the card in hand for a close look...Out of the 61 cards I sent, I selected 17 as "strong possible" candidates, and the Perry was one of those 17.

    Jasp24,
When you said that the centering was all over the place I do not understand. Except for the Buoniconti they are extremely well centered. The centering in your scans looks great. Along with the corners, I would believe that the centering was the deciding factor on the .5 bumps. Just my opinion. Congrats on the wonderful cards. That Thorpe card is the reason the hobby should have the .5 because that is definately a high end vintage 7.

The only ones even close to 50/50 are the McCormack and Perry...The rest are decently centered, but are off to a degree either L/R or T/B.

These for example did NOT bump..They have nicer centering, just as good if not better color and registration, but a weaker corner or corners:

So that means the Hutson is low grade 8, right?!?

Sweet, sell it to me at a significant discount since it's worthless now.

Nope, it's still got the old style flip, so consider it an 8.25...lol

Ok, I got all but one of my review orders back today..I've gotten back a total of 48 of the 61 cards..9 of those 48 bumps, so 39 did not..Of the 39, here are the reasons given by PSA via the little white stickers:

    Corners- 22
    Corners and PD- 4
    Corners and Centering- 1
    Corners and Focus- 1
    PD-7
    Centering-4

As expect, corners are THE #1 issue when determining .5 bumpage..There are a few that I disagree with after comparing them to my .5 upgrades. SO there will be a few going back. Haven't given them the hardcore inspections yet though...
