Seller who only accepts Money Orders and Cashier Checks

Would you make a $1000+ purchase from a seller who only accepts Money Orders or Cashiers Checks? He has over 3000 feedbacks with a 99.9 rating and has approximately 20 transactions in the last 3 months. I'm just worried if things don't turn out right I have no recourse or do I?

Thanks,
Mike

  • sounds like a reputable seller.
maybe he just doesnt want feebay and rapepal taking an ever growing percentage of his profits.

    There's always suicide.

Just kidding. With that many positive feedbacks, I would have no hesitation in bidding ...

I used to do it all the time before the paypal boom. That was 6-8 years ago back when people were honest.
  • There are still a ton of reputable sellers that wont take paypal....

Strange. Most folks are still honest. What are you talking about?

This is a trick question, right? Are you that insecure about your own ability to see that those are great seller numbers? If numbers like that dont instill confidence, what are you going to do 6 months from now when that same great seller's percentage is 96.8?

"if things don't turn out right"...The only recourse you would have is small claims court...and then "good luck" because if he's a scammer he'll probably be living in another apartment in another state somewhere by the time there is any court judgement...and just because you receive a judgement. doesn't mean you'll actually ever get your money back...frankly..."if things don't turn out right"...you'll most likely never see your money again.

  • ask him/her if they will take check, most do, unless they are located in the middle of nowhere....

Thanks for the input guys. Nick I'm not so much concerned about the seller as I am about what he can't control. One example, any kind of damage done to the cards due to the Post Office and my fate (a grand or two)will be determined by the seller or the Post Office who will ask you to prove that the contents were delivered in an Atomic bomb proof package for your reimbursement. It would be nice to have a third party(Paypal) for any dispute. This set doesn't come up often so thats the chance I'll take.
