Huge Pickup today: What do you think the Jordan Rookie will grade ?

I am thinking maybe a 9 because the centering is not perfect. What do you guys think?

I really did get this card today, I think I might send it to BCCG or Beckett and have it slabbed authentic.

I would do just that, it may even grade a 1?

    Good for you.
  • It's a shame centering has to kill a card kept so well protected all these years. image

You must be crazy. It might get an 8.5...but my money's on an 8 tops.

  • this is the reason why they should have the 9.5 grade. just for this card. stunning.

  • PSA 9, but you'll probably get a "furry" quailifier. I think I saw some old lady with a coat made of those.

Trimming aside, IN THEORY, once a card is printed, its centering is set for life. Over time, corners become worn as well as edges and surface. But in theory, not centering. So with that in mind, has anyone ever seen a TRULY crazy set of subgrades by BGS? For example, 9.5 Centering, but 1 for corners, 1.5 for edges and 2 for surface. Realistically, I could see that Jordan getting an 8.5, 9.0 or even 9.5 on centering and the rest, well, use your imagination.

How does one know either of them isn't fake?

I can't tell from either scan if the arrow in the logo is a different shade of yellow.

Ahman, true, but it is from 1986. Not like it's 50 years old. I think I'm just pissed because the guy I bought it from thought it was NM-MT.

you might call it nm- but nm/m, no way!

    PSA 8.5. chaz
  • Allen, I am thinking that one corner that shows a little wear might bring the grade down a bit. Good Luck submitting

Believe it or not the card looks better in person. The creases lightly break the surface and they are not as obvious like in the scan. No question it would grade low, but I am thinking just getting it slabbed authentic. This card could bring a shocking amount on eBay given that lots of people want a jordan they can get "cheap". They end up driving the bid way up. PSA 3-5 sell for surprising amounts. I will probably just keep it as it is a Jordan Rookie and I only have 6 of em haha.

P.S. - This card is 100% Authentic, I have seen a few before. image

  • seriously, i think it would be cool to put together a PSA 1 through 10 set of jordan's rookie card....im working on a similar Pujols set (1-10)

Since his earliest card is 2001 (I think), what do you do, bend it on purpose?
  • naw buy a psa 10 and peel off a tiny piece of the back image

When you look at all of 707's 52 Mantles in his showcase it is pretty cool. I believe when I saw them last year they spanned from PSA 1 - PSA 8(OC) with a total of about 12 cards or so.
  • I know that the scan is not perfect, but there appears to be a tiny crease (wrinkle?) or two. Everybody says a wrinkle brings it to a 5. My guess is a psa 5 or 5.5. Good luck, sometimes those wrinkles are missed!!

I guess there was nowhere else to go with this card. Fits well in an EX-MT to NM set I'm putting together for ebay.
