Yeah, I think this is dumb, what's your opinion?

So, Beckett, in my opinion is really screwing this one up. All of a sudden I've gotta put up with info about other sports instead of baseball. Thanks!

Beckett Magazine changes...

  • I honestly only pick up Beckett Basball Plus these days, so it is a non-issue for me. I would imagine Beckett has seen a shift in sales towards the Plus format to warrant the change.

  • Beckett has been going downhill for a long time, I bought the 2007 annual awhile back and I couldn't believe how many sets they have taken out since the last one I bought in 2004. When I buy a price guide, I want everything even if it's a $5 Classic set from the early 90's.

I honestly think it's a reaction to Beckett Graded Card Investor becoming so popular.

Isn't the annual the same as the almanac?
  • I was going to bring the same thing up. I bought a two year Beckett Baseball subscription a year ago and it's gotten progessively crappier. I used to check the graded card values which went from a couple pages down to no pages in this month's issue. WTF? They now list NASCAR and die cast prices instead??? That sucks. I'm going to call tomorrow and try to get my $ back for the remainder of the subscription.

I have no opinion, I'm just grateful that this thread is card related.

I do not read Beckett, thus I have no opinion.

    Good for you.

I think it has very little to do with that.

The reason they have been cutting back on the grading material is because they have a graded magazine now.
  • I'm all for other sports, it's just I don't collect the other sports. I like the separation. I get Tuff Stuff also just so I can have a good set of opinions on different things. But what I have always loved about Beckett is that if I don't want to read about another sport, I can pick up the sport I'm interested in and not be barraged with other sports stuff.

No, there is a BIG difference. The Alamanc has virtually every baseball card known to exist (it better with 1477 pages in tiny six column print) while the annual has only what they consider to be the "important, popular" sets. image For further comparison:

2008 Beckett Baseball Card Almanac; lists virtually every card known to exist plus some baseball memrobilia; first published in 1996
2007 Beckett Baseball Card Price Guide (the main annual; published since 1979; USED to list virtually all baseball cards)
