1959 Venezuela Topps

I have been having fun collecting this set. Since my favorite set is the 1959 Topps, it is only natural that I would take a liking to this set as well. I bought my first cards raw at the National last year. I decided to have them graded and the sub just popped. My sub doubled the pop report. There are now 105 cards graded. There is a lot to learn about this set. One thing for sure is that all the cards are lower grade cards since they were abused years ago in Venezuela. Getting a PSA 5 in this set is akin to getting a PSA 9 in the regular set. There are currently no graded cards over a PSA 6. This is fun to do and that is what it is all about!!

These cards are very rare and I hardly ever recollect seeing any of them at the National before. I will be looking for more this year in Chicago.

Very, very nice. I've submitted a few 60's and 70's Venezuela's , and thought I did real well with 2's and 4's. If these ever had a following, you would have a gold mine. Great job !!!!

Sometimes sets were scarcity is so high just finding the cards in any condition is more fun then trying to put together a more easy to get set in higher condition. It kinda just makes you forget the grade and enjoy the cards.

Very nice Don.I also had started collecting the 59 Vens but later scrapped the project in which I had about 20 cards or so.I sold them a couple years back the conditions were fair/good at best.

I think Dave caught on to the Venezuelans recently. Last year his prices were a little too cheap, lately they've gone up. He's a great guy to deal with and a great source of impossible to find cards!

I collect Brooks Robinson cards and I have managed to get all of his VENZ. issues......His first appearance was in 1962.....I am so glad he wasnt apart of the 59 set !!!! My 67 Brooks is so cool....it lloks like a bad counterfiet of the real topps issue...no gloss...bad focus...bad color...bad in many ways.

Dave, it is a very nice companion collection. It is fun to put together.

There are 196 cards in the set......the same first 196 cards that are in the regular Topps issue.

I noticed that PSA didn't holder 3 of your '59s due to their being "altered." Is the altering obvious, or is it just an issue of reduced card dimensions? I'm sure that 99+% of the folks at PSA have no idea of the fairly significant size variations that can be seen in *unaltered* Venezuelan cards. They may be worth a re-submission...

Alex, I am going to definitely resubmit those cards. I have a few more raw Venies coming in this week. I will probably put another sub together within a few weeks and I will add those to see if they grade a second time.
