Exciting news! Over the weekend my wife was handed an envelope at work and told to wait till she got home to open it. She came home and opened it and it was a check to refund her for supplies she bought last year.
So, those supplies have long been paid for and she decided it would be fun to buy 2 boxes of Topps 08 to bust. They should be here any day now!!!!

    First your Mom and Dad and now your wife? All I ever get from my family is guilt and chores.

    The set this year is not too bad. You should get the base set with the 2 boxes without a problem and look for some Blacks to recoup the cost.

    Yes, the family has been awesome. We do this kind of stuff throughout the year for each other. We have a very small family and everyone's spread out. So, the only time we really see each other is Christmas. So we make up for birthdays and what not throughout the year by sending what my grandparents call "care packages". It's a sort of pay it forward system in our family.
    They've been doing this since my mom and her sisters were in college. It just kind of carried over.

    A good Topps product to open coming up is Heritage baseball - so keep it in mind.

    Well, we ripped into 2 boxes. Nothing to really speak of in the first box. Got the Dice-K insert and a Joba insert. Did however pull a Kazuo Uzuki from both boxes. Second box yielded 3 good cards. Pulled a Vlad G. game used jersey, an Ellsbury insert, and....a really nice 1 of 1 Cyan printing plate. Josh Willingham of the Marlins. Overall I think it went well. Glad we got these instead of some other stuff.
    I should have my needs and trade list up after this weekend. Thanks!

    Edit: Also pulled a Kelvim Escobar black border.

    Sorry, no can do boys. Just ain't gonna happen. But quick question about the cards...what should I be on the look out in the future if I decided to open anymore of these. I was kinda blind going into opening these.

    Guru, I opened 4 packs today while at my local card shop, I didn't know what to look for either. First new cards I've opened in a long time. I got a Dustin Pedroia rookie and several other rookie cards, no major stars except Magglio Ordonez.

    Rookies are great! We were at Target tonight and they had some out for sale. Glad I didn't pick them up as I'm sure they've probably already been searched through. I thought these boxes were great to open up. Tomorrow I'll be spending the day orgainizing. I saw quite a bit of doubles. I'm definitely happy about the printing plate. Only the second one I have found opening packs in the last 3 years. I'm also happy with the find of 2 Kazuo Uzuki. Considering this guys not even in the majors yet, I think it's a great card. Hope the Indians sign him. That would be awesome in a clutch, lol. I'm not sure how many of those were printed though. I'm curious to see if they are scarce. I think that the one I might have problems getting is the Rudy Red Sox card. I'd prefer to acquire that either through trade or finding one. Last year I found close to 20 of the Jeter error cards, but I'm not sure how huge the production was this year on the Rudy card.

    Guru, the owner of the card shop did mention the Rudy card to me. He said the day before a customer bought a box and opened them in the store and he got a Rudy card.
    If you happen to get an Alex Gordon or Billy Butler card(both Royals players) I'd love to see a scan. But I don't know if they'll be in the first series or second series. Good luck on putting your set together, they are nice looking cards.
