It is interesting reading Lange his insight into the Date and numerals selected for the coin. In that the tail of the nine sweeps downward. In 1910, after the coin which had only been intended as a one year issue was extended, the "09" was ground off the master. Every year after that only the last two numbers were stamped into the hubs from which working dies were made. Some years the 3 had a tail, other years it did not, Same as the five. It was felt that those numbers looked better balanced against the second nine, in the date.
Now that the 2 is the first number, the long tail 9 5 and 3 almost look out of balance. Maybe its time to go back to the original short bottom numerals.
