    1 - 1972 Topps Baseball
    2 - Everything else
  • The 1971 set is a classic with the black borders, and the 1972 set is nice, but a little gaudy. '75 is a beautiful set, but some of the color combinations are a little strange. I've always had a soft spot for 1977 and 1978, and thanks to Lee, I should have a great looking 1978 set on the way to my house!

71 is a set in its own league (design & difficulty in finding non-chipped cards make it transcend the decade of "disco duck" & "muskrat love")
75 minis- see '71, but not to same degree
76- bicentennial, un-american to not put in top 3
77- simple clean design, wish i had my set back!
81 donruss- marked beginning of end for collectors around the world.

    Here's my list:

    1. 1975: Everyone by now knows I love this bold colorful design.
    2. 1971: Very close second; you can't argue with beautiful black borders
    3. 1976: As much as people love 1975's bold colorful design, 1976 is a pretty nice colorful set in its own right. And at less than half the price.
    4. 1972: Also another bold colorful 1970s appropriate look.
    5. 1979: Not quite sure how to explain its appeal but I've always liked this design.
    6. 1978: Same as 1979 but to a slightly lesser extent.
    7. 1974: I think this design is a bit underrated; it has its charm and is very colorful; I especially like the horizontal designed cards.
    8. 1970: The gray borders have their charm, but not all that exciting; I do like the blue/yellow back though.
    9. 1973: Rather boring design, but the very nice photography (especially the backgrounds) make up for it.
    10. 1977: Ho-hum front, but the clever billboard backside (my favorite 1970's back design) makes up for it.

1977 closely followed by 1976...I'd vote 1979 as the worst of the decade.

    Wow,

I've never seen anyone 'call out' the 72 set like that.
    Steve,
You're going to take some heat for that one.

    75 Topps
    71 Topps

  • i love the 78' baseball set.
1972 is a close second, bright bold, gaudy; really stands out.
1974 gets no love, but it's a classy, simple and pleasing design.
1971 is sharp in mint condition, otherwise it looks ragged and crappy.

    dislike 1973, 1976, 1979

no opinion on 1977, 1975 (some of the color combos work)
