Littleton coin company opinion

Good evening, board....

I made a purchase today of All Mint Franklin Half Dollar Set (3-Coins) from "Littleton coin company".....did I just fall in the new-to-collecting tar pit? I just did a search on this board and it seems like they will send me everything and the kitchen-sink in addition to my little order....any opinions? i really don't like the thought of them sending me valuable coins I haven't paid for, just for me to send them right back.....man am I regretting it now....image

  • They're a fine company, but they get you with those coins 'On Approval.'

They'll send you the coins you ordered, plus another 5 coins you didn't order; usually very overpriced coins, and then make you pay for them or send them back.

Then they'll send you 5 more until you call and cuss them out and make them stop sending you this stuff.

Guaranteed you overpaid. If there is any way to get out, do it. They will send you a bunch of other overpriced coins "on approval" with your order.

  • Oh, no...I paid with a credit card, do they just go off and charge/authorize your card without your approval????
  • Littleton is on that ever expanding list of "I wouldnt"....BUT, there ARE alot worse. Though they do overcharge, but you WONT get XF-AU/cleaned coins being sold as BU.

edited to add: The owner (?) who recently passed away, DID help expand the hobby
  • Looks like this is a $52 set before shipping. Yeah, I would try and get my money back ASAP.

  • Yeah, they are a large pain in the butt. I think that just about everyone who starts out collecting coins has a run in with them. I believe it's now made mandatory.
Cut ties and move on, hopefully a little wiser.

Littleton has very good for grade coins you wont get junk form them. They as has been mentioned are absurdly high priced, whatever you bought send it back for a refund you paid way too much.

nah, registered mail not necessary, regular mail works for them, they aren't pushy when you say no.

I got a great promotion from Littleton about a year ago. One Oz. Silver Eagles for $9 each, postpaid.

Then by return mail (their pp envelope) I said do not send me approvals. I might have gotten a catalog or two subsequently, but nothing else.

I agree with the above postings that they are way overpriced.

They must be doing some marketing right though. I believe they have been around over 50 years.

Obviously, I don't know what the ad you bought from said, but the ones I've seen from Littleton pretty much all say that along with the coins you're buying, they'll send others on approval. I'd guess if you don't want to receive coins on approval, all you'd need to do is to tell them so and they'll stop- there's no benefit in it for them to be sending coins to people who don't want them.
  • ok, just a update, i just received my franklins which i had ordered....in addition, a ASE for my review. i will be sending back te eagle, but I must say that it seems very hassle free....pretty pricey, but they don't sneak anything over on you, and they give you a postage paid return envelope.

    Pretty painless, I must say.

  • they have decent stuff

    you just pay 200-300% market

unless it is a lowball offer to get you on their approval list

then you have to cancel as soon as you can

I took advantage of that 3 coin deal. Can order 3 deals...9 coins $38. Got them today with 1 oz. ASE for $25 on approval. The ASE is now in their post paid return package with a note to cancel future approval shipments....A good, no strings , deal .

this is exactly the deal i did...I figured you cant go wrong with 9 Franklins for $38
  • CoinlearnerCoinlearner Posts: 2,498 ✭✭✭✭
No can not. I also ordered the special deal for ASE at 15 ea. 5 of them, but they have not charged CC. I know people that are ordering more 9 coin deals after getting their first 9. They have not pulled it yet

Are those in the little bags labled Unc-60, "priced according to condition"? If so, what's the quality like?

These are just worn bullion Frankies and the ASE they are trying to sell looks circulated in a baggie

My brief fling with Littleton Coin Co was not so bad. The coins I bought from them ended up doing OK value wise. Ie are now worth more than I paid for them. And made it into PCGS plastic. But yes, you will get coins on approval until you ask them to stop. But to their credit, they will leave you aslone when you ask.
