Question about Morgans and large cents

Is the 1895 P Morgan dollar required for the Registry set?

The reason I ask is that for Large cents the Stawberry leaf variety is required. There are only 4 known. Also required for Large Cents are the Jefferson head styles. One of them has only three known.

Is the 1895 P Morgan considered a variety or a regular business strike?

The 1895 should be considered a proof (which it is). But there is a listed mintage of 12,000 business strikes (of which none are known, and none probably ever were minted with the 1895 date), so I suppose they can require it.

  • Recently, a few of us have been in contact with David Hall regarding the large cents. It is pretty crazy with all of the varities produced in the early years. I believe they will be reworking the set. Our suggestion was to treat those years like a type set. If you have the year you satisfy the requirement. Otherwise it would be near impossible to complete. Spooly has more of the specifics on the discussion with David.
