Tiger Woods signature variations

I can't remember the name of the thread where someone posted the image of the "incorrect spelling" on Tiger Woods Sport Royalty Goudey. If someone has a link to the thread, it would be appreciated, BUT, I had promised to show images of four different Tiger Woods auto's that I've got in person once my scanner got up and running. It's finally working. Below are four different Tiger Woods signatures I've received on golf pin flags over the past few years. As you can see, his signature, particularly in his first name varies greatly. In one of the four he dots the I in Tiger. In the others he doesn't. The locations of the G and E can go any which way. My apologies for not being able to find the original thread, but I figured this might be of some interest anyway.

Would you be interested in selling one of the ones personalized "To Mike", that's my name too and I'd like to have one.

Sorry. Can't do it. I collect signed major championship pin flags and those are all different. Top Left - 02 US Open, Top Right 06 British Open, Bot Left 06 PGA unpersonalized (couldn't believe he didn't personalize that day!), Bot Right 00 British. I also try not to sell autos that I get in person as, in my experience, that's what's hindered MY in person auto's more than anything - guys thinking I'm just there to make $$. My apologies

    ...................................................................

Actually, I consider ALL of the signatures WELL within
the range of the other genuine exemplars that I have.

I doubt that any expert would suggest that ANY of your
sigs are not genuine. The "variations" that you cite are
    really VERY minor.

I love signed flags. They make GREAT collectibles.

LOL, since they are in-person auto's I should HOPE not!!

That they do. I have a great many of them. My scanner isn't big enough to scan some of the multi-signed flags that I have, but some are very valuable. And I'm not even talking about some of the signed golf balls that I have. I'm lobbying PSA to allow me to register my Masters signed golf ball collection by starting a new registry. I'm only missing H. Smith, C. Wood, J. Demaret, R. Guldahl and T. Woods (those cost $2K+!!)

I used to have a Tiger Woods PSA/DNA authenticated signed golf ball but I sold it a couple of years back. Wish I still had it and we could have done some negotiating that could have included a "To Mike" signed flag. I've bought and sold an amazing variety of things over the years, but that is one piece that I've always regretted selling.

Oye - now for THAT, i might have made a trade!! Darn it!

Here is the favorite piece of golf memorabilia that I have. It's almost finished. I have more expensive stuff, but this one is the most fun. It's a Players Championship Flag signed by every winner except 4. - Mickelson I hope to get this week at Riviera. Nicklaus, a buddy is trying to get for me in Hawaii next week, then it's just Calvin Peete and Jodie Mudd, both of whom I'm reluctant to put it in the mail to. I have got Calvin Peete TTM before, but this is a high dollar value item. Would have to insure up the wazoo and pray.

Notice the super clean Tiger in the bottom right and the Greg Norman right under the logo.

    General question.

Are these pin flags for sale at the event?

I'm assuming they're not event used since I've seen so many of them around?

Very nice items gents - I enjoyed this immensely - wish we have more of it!

Yes, you can buy pin flags at every PGA Tour event. Usually major championship flags are available on eBay. Even unsigned, they usually appreciate in value a fair amount.

No, they're not event used. They're sold in souvenir tents

How do you get tiger to sign in person? And second question, how did he have enough time to actually personalize it? I think that is awesome that he took the time to do that. From what I've heard from people in MN (He was here one time when he lost to Beem in the PGA Champ) he was nearly untouchable. He was completely swarmed and really didn't sign much at all. A few people saw him out and about outside of the course (mall, eating etc) and he signed a couple things in the parking lot and left.

I'm interested how you have such luck with him as I have a litho that I would LOVE to have signed but UDA is $1200 to have him ink it.

Believe me. I'm definitely not batting 1.000 w/ Mr. Woods. I'm probably in the .200 range. It's a matter of right place/right time. You have to be at the course on a practice day (usually Tuesday) at about 6:00am. He'll come out at 6:40 or so and head to the first tee to practice and sign about 10 things on the way (note: sometimes he signs nothing). When you do this, you are usually fighting about 30 people instead of the 300 after a round (when he usually doesn't sign). Also, at the Target World Challenge at Sherwood, which is his offseason tournament, he usually is a little more accommodating than at regular season tournaments. You also have to know what to go after him with. If you have anything related to the Masters, you can pretty much forget it. As a matter of fact, just leave it at home as I'm convinced that the Masters yellow flags actually scare him off signing anything else.

As far as personalizing, if you ask him to sign a big ticket item, he will 95% of the time personalize it. My guess is that this is part of his deal with Upper Deck. If you're just asking him to sign the flag for the tournament that week, a hat, a video game box or a poster, he'll just sign and move on. The stuff I ask for is usually a major championship flag that he won - so he usually personalizes - which is fine because I would never sell them.

Good luck with Tiger and make sure to watch out for the 50 autograph hounds that do nothing but sell his signature and follow him around the country.

Good points Mike. I also seen people have luck with some of these methods. During the practice round when Tiger is putting on the practice green. Or another way is Tiger going or leaving the practice range. Even these times you are still battlling alot of people. For other players I have found though this is a great way to get autos. If you are lucky you can also get one possibly when they go from the green to tee during the practice round. I have been going to tournaments for a long time. Even though most of these years I never asked for autograph, the next best thing is being a foot or two from these extraordinary atheletes. There is no other sport where you can be so close.
