Advice On Selling A PSA Registry Set...

I am looking for some advice from the more experienced sellers and owners of Registry sets. I currently have a 1975 Topps Set Which is ranked number 56 currently and 70 all time at 30.5 % complete. When I finish entering in all the newly graded cards it should be about 37% complete and quite a bit stronger in its overall grade as I have about 10 cards which are being upgraded from PSA 5's to PSA 8's leaving only about 5 PSA 6's and 5 PSA 9's and the remaining 240 cards PSA 7's and PSA 8's. I believe at that time I will have moved the set in to the top 50 sets currently and about 65 or so for the all time rank. Is it possible to get a buyer on eBay who will pay for a set of this caliber or do I have to split up and sell the graded cards and then the ingraded cards or what?

Thank you all and I appreciate your time and help.

P.S.
If I take all 250 graded cards and use the current SMR price of $8 each for a common graded an PSA 8 it works out to be $2000.00. if my average is close to that for the set overall is it possible to obtain that figure or is it a figure of a wild imagination?

    Brinsd,

It has been my expierience, especially with the 1975 set, that cards graded PSA 8 usually sell for much less than SMR unless they have low pops. PSA 7's and 6's (Commons) are very cheap....

You should catalog all of your cards, apply the SMR price for each card, then try to list it on Ebay with a BIN for about 75% of SMR and see how you do, otherwise you best bet would be to sell each card individually.'

    Good Luck with your sale,
    262

I have to agree with 262. I started my 1975 set in 2002 the populations have jumped so much in the last 6 years that it's tough to sell most 8s for even the grading fees, and 8+ is the target grade for most collectors of that set. 7s and lower sell for just a couple bucks, if they sell at all. Since you have a good-sized if mixed accumulation, though, I think you might do better to sell it as a single large lot but at a price that's really nothing to do with SMR. Selling 7s one by one will probably net you a bunch of $1-$2 sales. Label it as a starter partial set and it should sell, depending on your asking price. A BIN with best offer should tell you the market for it.

The 1975 Topps Baseball set has one of the highest number of registrants (if not the most). Use this to your advantage. Email people at the bottom end of the registry who may collect 8's and see if they are interested. You may get some buyers who will want to cherry pick. When you are done package the rest as a lot and be done with it.

You can also list them on the B/S/T board. People do it all of the time. List out the numbers of what you have available and you may get some hits. Those two suggestions will cost you nothing but time.

I will be your first customer. How much do you want for Larry Dierker #49 in PSA 9?

  • Just wanted to say thank you to each of you (262Runner, helionaut, theczar) for answering my questions, I am probably about 2 or 3 weeks away from selling as I purchased some cards which have not made it into the set registry or my hands yet. When they do I hope it will clean the set up enough to generate the interest I am looking for.

I would sell it a lil differently. I would make a few lots up instead of one, perhaps by team and or grade. I would also list it at what i was trying to get out of it too.
Meaning i would not start them off at .99 Good Luck in whatever you decide to do.

    Good for you.
