From pack to holder

When sellers state this in their description, does the title statement justify anything? We all know that cards come from packs....we open them, and put them in holders, pages, etc.

I left a neutral feedback, but before I tell you why, I just wanted to see what people thought about the statement above.

Comments

  • It's a meaningless statement in my opinion. It says nothing about the quality of the card. It's like saying a coin is "uncirculated".
  • I see this alot. I think what sellers are trying to communicate is that they haven't bought this and flipped it or that it's authentic maybe. When I see this, it doesn't affect whether I will or will not buy a card.

Well, I left a neutral stating that "card has a ding on the upper right corner, not disclosed in description; otherwise fast ship. C- " Seller scored well on shipping rate, fast shipping, so so on communication and poorly on description. To me, "from pack to holder" tends to be deceiving as it covers all aspects of condition to cover their end. You can pull a card out a pack and it can be scratched, dinged, creased, etc. Had he stated the ding in the description, I would not have bid. Going back to the scan, it's barely noticeable unless you knew where it was and what you were looking for since the card is white. I know, most might think that I should of asked questions, but with more and more of these types of auctions popping up (90% for modern), that means I have to ask every frigging seller. Generally all I expect is nm-mt or better on modern, and would rather see nm-mt or better in the description.
  • Considering that some of the worst cards I have ever owned went "from pack to holder" I put no stock in that statement at all.

I've learned to totally ignore the rhetoric in the titles and description by ebay authors.

My favorites: "pack fresh" - "straight from vending" - "Pristine"

What is the guy trying to say? Never been traded, flipped, rubber banded?

The statement "from pack to holder" and his implication IMO is a non sequitur.

"...To me, "from pack to holder" tends to be deceiving ..."

    It is really just puffery.

It is meant to imply that the card has not been handled/stored much,
and looks nice. Experienced sellers who use the phrase might be candidates to avoid.

Some of the worst cards I have ever seen, I pulled "from pack."

"Pack Fresh," is a little less "deceiving." It SHOULD mean the card is straight out of a pack.
I have used that phrase in listings before to convey that "I just now pulled the card."
(Current 2008 BB, for example.) NOT to imply that the card has been stored, BUT STILL
"looks new." ........... "Looks Pack Fresh," could honestly describe a great card that was NOT
"just now pulled." However, "pack fresh" is probably MUCH misued to puff-up the item.

people associate it coming right out of a pack as being "new" or mint...
they are saying it went from the pack to the holder so it has to be in great condition.. not years of touching.. or put into boxes and reshuffled,
we all know you can pull a 6 right out of a pack... pack fresh I consider to be something a little different..
to me this is a card they did not just pull from a pack but looks like it is brand new.. and has the eye appeal and sharp corners of a brand new card, something many would consider as "mint"

    Yup.

That's why it is appropriate to say, "LOOKS PACK FRESH."

I like the "from vending" description when the card was never offered via vending boxes. A lot of ebayers don't even know what it means. I also like it when someone describes their wax box as never been opened, then you see a picture of the box with its lid up so you can see the packs inside.
