Looks like the M's are toast. Coming a part and now have the worst record in baseball. Buzzi, the Manager and Ichiro all have to go, before this team is turned around
Ichiro51fan, My steals comment on Ichiro was with about twenty games into the season when I saw the stat, and yes he has stolen bases at a high rate since then. When he is going really well he can be an exciting player to watch. Over the past bunch of seasons he has bulked up his numbers when the games are meaningless. After 20 games this year the Mariners are out of it and are now the laughingstock of the league. Ichiro is overrated. I watched him try to bunt for hits with runners on second late in the game down by one run in the year he broke the hit record. That is a very selfish play. Even the announcers were pissed. It was with 2 outs each time. A bunt in that situation is only about the stats. He did this about 3 games in a row. The M's need a leader not a selfish player. Mickey71
<< <i>Jim Mora would be a perfect P.R. rep for the M's. Playoffs? Playoffs?, We're just trying to win a damn game. The M's played way so far above their heads last year they all had bleeding noses. They'll be lucky to garnish a .500 season. After their #1 & #2, you've got a washed up Washburn, a grandfather in Batista and as King George would say, a fat-toad in Silva. Anything north of 30 wins out of those 3 would be a freakin miracle. The bullpen is solid, the defense is solid, but you've got a clean-up hitter who can't even hit his weight and the 7, 8 & 9 spots in the order are below average. Vidro as your DH, what did he have last year? 6 jacks, 59 RBI in 550 AB's? No wonder Safeco is the worst hitters park in the AL - just look who plays there 81 times per year and you'll have your answer to why that is. The AL west is the weakest division in all of baseball. I'm no Angels fan, but you can almost bank on them playing (and being eliminated in the first round again) in October. >>
The originator of this post only made one mistake..........................in the last sentence; he insinuated they would actually make the playoffs.
Well, just to get it out of the way, Mickey71's comments are just too ignorant to respond logically to, but I'll give it a try anyway. To say that Ichiro is over-rated and a selfish player is a complete joke, and really reflects either 1) your ignorance about the game or, 2) your hate for Ichiro. Your statement about bulking up his numbers when the games are meaningless is the most glaring lie in your rant against Ichiro. The facts show that since his arrival in 2001, no Mariner has been more of a clutch hitter/player than Ichiro. Now, if you were to make this comment about Sexson, I would give you some credit, because unlike Ichiro, this guy has left countless RISP over the past 2 years and in most cases, the few HR's he's hit have been when the game is out of reach one way or another. As for Ichiro, even though his avg is down so far this year, at least he's making up for it in other ways. 30 SB's in 32 attempts... on pace for almost 70 SB's! I can't tell you how many times this year Ichiro has reached base and the only way the M's can score him is for him to run wild. Stealing 2nd so they can score him on just 1 hit, and in several cases, swiping 2nd & 3rd so he can score without a hit. Now, the fact that the guys is among the league leaders in runs scored with that horrible lineup hitting behind him should speak volumes! Now let's looks at Ichiro's career... a life-time avg of .331, but his avg's are even better than that in clutch situations: - .343 with RISP - .358 with RISP & 2 outs - .467 with bases loaded (amazing!)
In late & close games, he's at .338. When the game is tied or within 4 runs either way, he bats above his overall avg in every single breakdown! And, to top it off, his worst split comes when games are out-of-reach, (over 4 runs) where he bats only .321! All of this data can easily be found on baseball-rerence.com. In fact, here's the direct link to the page where I pulled these stats from:
So, now that I have debunked your idiotic mis-statements with pure fact, what do you have to say for yourself?
