    My grandpa has been an Indians fan for 60 years now! It all started in 1948 when he won $10 for correctly predicting with three of his co-workers (he worked at a local Whirlpool plant all his working life) who would win the American League Championshp; the other three teams in contention at the time were Boston, Detroit, and New York. And of course, the Indians would also go on to win the World Series (which is why on 1950's baseball cards, you'll see the Indians logo with a crown to commemorate that '48 championship), though they haven't won it again since. They did come close in 1997 though!

    Great story Estil!
  • Its March 1st.....I can almost smell the outfield grass!
  • Well I felt I needed to bump this in response to Paul's Red Sox thread LOL.

    Maybe we will both have to change our threads to "race for the wild card" Since are teams play in the toughest divisions in baseball!

    In fact, I think we should just get rid of the National League!

    Looks like it will be a close battle between Detroit and Cleveland for the Central division. Should be fun.

    he's going to wish he had signed that deal prior to the season if he keeps SUCKING.
  • Hey, maybe we can resign him for a discount image

    just locked up Carmona for 4 years.
  • awesome ! another craptacular start from CC! his price just dropped another 2 million per season! at this rate we can sign him for a bag of peanuts and a box of empty promises!
  • goose3goose3 Posts: 11,471 ✭✭✭
    he keeps pitching like that and the fans will be ticked if he stays.

    I was going to head up tonite but figured it was a waste of money.

    my buddy was there last night. Verlander threw him a ball.

    don't know what's a matter with the indians.....I was going to hit all of the afternoon weekday games but now I'm having second thoughts.....guess I'll take my buddies offer to go see the Reds...but I'll wait until Cueto pitches.
  • looks like your boy Cueto has imploded.

    Cliff Lee has been dazzling...hopefully Pronk can shed his early season misery and right the ship. A trade for a legitimate veteran hitter would make me feel a lot better about our chances this season.
  • goose3goose3 Posts: 11,471 ✭✭✭
    any of you attending this Saturday's game???

    I'd like to pick up the CC Bobblehead for my boy if anyone gets one and wants to make a few bux.
  • Goose, did you get your bobblehead?

    p.s.

    the starting pitching has been phenomenal!

    Time to trade for a solid veteran bat and shore up the lineup.

    This division should be the Tribes to lose.
  • alnavmanalnavman Posts: 4,129 ✭✭✭
    as long as the pitching continues I think the Indians will be the team to beat. Eventually they will start hitting...here in cleveland the weather has not been the greatest when they've been home so you know it's got to get better.

    They will win it all this year. It's a wrap.

    yeah, I bought one on Feebay. The 19.00 total on it was much less than the gas alone to go to the game.

    I had 2 tix for tonite and gave them to my dad and aunt. I hope it stays dry for them.
  • the streak continues!!!

    CC. Complete game SHUTOUT...

    Can Aaron Laffey continue the streak???

    pitching and defense!!!! where have we heard this before......the tigers are starting to hit but defensively they are lacking and their pitching suc...well you knowl......
  • DavidPuddyDavidPuddy Posts: 3,485 ✭✭✭
    Strong pitching again today. Except for the shaky closer spot.
    A sweep of the A's and a nice spot in first place.

    Go tribe!

  • the new closer should be kobayashi. Bettencourt is better suited to the setup role and he has been having control problems.

    GO TRIBE!!!!
  • alnavmanalnavman Posts: 4,129 ✭✭✭
    I listened to the end of yesterday's game and supposedly Borowski is due back like in a week.....they are saying he was hurt which caused his poor outings earlier this year....also they noted he would go back to closer when back. I agree that Betancourt really has not performed as the closer...could be he was meant to be set up man and nothing more..
  • Borowski is not a shut down, lights out closer; he always ends up with guys on base. I really hope he gets hurt lol and is done for the season image

    3 game sweep! What the heck?!
  • DavidPuddyDavidPuddy Posts: 3,485 ✭✭✭
    Their probability of making the playoffs went from .01% to .05% in the last 10 games!

    There's still a chance.......

    just been jinxed...watch Seattle come into town and sweep.....I'm diehard fan as well but if they did come back it would have to be the biggest turnaround in sports history.
  • goose3goose3 Posts: 11,471 ✭✭✭
    When victor comes back they're going to have some decisions to make regarding Shoppach!

    He's done every bit as well as Victor IMO.
  • Victor goes to first and/or DH's Shoppach catches. gives them more power in the lineup given how garko has struggled.
  • Don't forget Travis Haefner isn't very far away either. He certainly can't play first so Garko would be the odd man out.
  • i dont think hafner is 100%, he was subpar last year and god awful this year. I can see them giving up on him and going after a younger, better player with more upside.

    for that matter i wanna get Laporta up with the team soon image
  • alnavmanalnavman Posts: 4,129 ✭✭✭
    I don't think we will see LaPorta until next year...when you combine playing only a handful of games with the Indians, the Olympics and his not playing much over the last two weeks I think they will wait
  • goose3goose3 Posts: 11,471 ✭✭✭

    << <i>Don't forget Travis Haefner isn't very far away either. He certainly can't play first so Garko would be the odd man out. >>

    I think Haffner will and Should be the odd man out.

    2 years of sucking and it's time to go.
  • DavidPuddyDavidPuddy Posts: 3,485 ✭✭✭
    I know Hafner has not been the player he was in 05 and 06, but he did have 100 RBI last year.

    Maybe his recent sucking has to do with this injury. Heck, just look at what a nagging injury did to Cliff Lee.
    He was in the &@%&amp;!*$ minors last year!
    I'm just saying that I'm not sure who I want as my long term DH (next 2-3 years). Victor, Hafner, Not Garko, Not Choo,,, who?

    09 Starting 9
    1B = LaPorta / Victor split
    2b = Barf?
    SS = Astrocab
    3B = JP
    CF = Grady
    LF = Ben Fran
    RF = Gutz
    C = Kelly / Victor
    DH = Haftner / Victor

    Let's put George Hendricks out in LF.
  • alnavmanalnavman Posts: 4,129 ✭✭✭
    excellent choice for LF. I was sitting trying to think of a left fielder but was drawing a blank....I consider putting Archie out in center but thought we'd leave one current guy out there....
  • Did VMart really get activated today?

    He's playing 1st base as I type this.

    I think Larvell Blanks was an infielder, he may not be suited for LF.

    I knew that as soon as discussion turned positive on the Indians the jinx would appear.....they are getting ready to be swept......well at least we have the Browns to root forimage

    I will take complete blame for the 2 game slide.
