Jwmerrill gets his due...

From the PSA Insider -

PSA SET REGISTRY SPOTLIGHT
=============================================================
JWMerrill's 67s
The 2nd Finest 1967 Topps Baseball Set
In the last PSA Insider, we presented to you the Skylaneflyer
1967 Topps Baseball Set. It is true that this set is the number
one finest; however, our statement that Skylaneflyer was the
first to reach 100% complete was incorrect. Turns out that Jim
Merrill's set reached completion first, and so we feel it only
right that we highlight this fine set as well! Jim's set has a
weighted GPA of 8.07 and rates 8.02 overall. To make this set
even more spectacular than it already is, Jim has added images
to nearly every card in his set.

I'm glad they gave you the recognition you deserve.

Having dealt with Jim on several occasions...it's good to see such a high class guy get the kudos that he very much deserved. Congrats Jim...

Having been a long-time lurker, I finally got off my duff to post props to both Jim and Sky. Your collections are inspirational and a testimony that "It can be done."

    Thanks from this relatively youngblood,

Anyone who is crazy, I mean dedicated enough to scan and upload 600+ images is alright in my book!
  • Congratulations Jim! And thanks to BJ for setting the record straight on the first article. Jim has done an incredible job building his set and adding images of the cards for all of us to see. I think the best is yet to come from Jim on the 67 Set.

Thank you, BJ, for setting the record straight before Sky and Jim came to blows. It takes a lot of effort to deal with the many fragile egos on this board!

Seriously, guys, great job. An amazingly tough set, and what an effort to get so many cards in such a short period of time. That your GPA's are over 8 is absolutely incredible. I am sure that you'll still be upgrading 10 years down the road -- making your sets nothing short of perfection.

    All the best!
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • Jwmerrill,

Congrats, Not only were you the first to complete the 1967 set, but were also the first to complete a post 1960 topps baseball set, and the first to complete a 600+ card set. A fantastic acomplishment!

Congratulations to Skylanefler too for completing the set.

Who will be the first to complete a 1970's set?
  • Thanks to everyone for the kind words. And also thanks to my fellow 67 collectors who have helped me complete the set, especially to Sky, for feeding me the crumbs from his set to keep me going!!

Alfiewt - I didn't realize that there were no other complete post 1960 sets!

Anyone wanting to start a 67 set, let me know.. I have about 400 extra slabbed cards now... maybe you could get a varghaloan to buy the whole bunch!!

I'm down to 19 cards that I need to upgrade from less than a PSA 8.. and paying a nice ransom to anyone who can help me!! Dude.. you helped Sky... any morsels for me?!

    Jim
