.5 grades= positive version of qualifiers

it seems that so few cards are getting half grades, that PSA may be reserving the half grades for special situations only, something similar to the frequency of qualifiers, except these are positive, not negative like the qualifiers...

seems like the big uproar the last few weeks was for nothing......0.5 grades seem like just a small percentage of cards, and will actually add value to the card without taking away from the whole grade....

nice work PSA

I agree...8.5 is really an 8.9..A card that is VERY close to a PSA 9, but just falling short.

Of the 60 cards I have in for review, I am expecting 15 to bump the .5 or full grade. I hand picked the nicest examples from my collection. Inspected and re-inspected each card and only sent cards I thought had a realistic opportunity to bump. A few, I had sent in the past looking for a FULL GRADE bump. If 25% of the cards I thought were 8.5's are bumping, then .5 isn;t being used as a halfway point between grades. But rather a very high end 8.9 type example within the grade.

Fandango is dead on....If PSA is using the .5 as basically a positive qualifier, then the values of regular straight graded cards will not fall. But the super high end, half grade versions will sell for a much higher premium than the ypically BGS or SGC .5 grades do.

It still remains to be seen though, yes there havnt been alot of .5 grades given so far but after this settles in it could be given outr more frequently, Im waiting until later in the year to submit my cards. To me this is is a "work in progress" right now, I hope it ends up being what its designed for IE: a nice 7 that may be a touch off center to warrant an 8 but ends up being a 7.5- I think thats what you meant with your first sentence. I look forward to this process playing out more.
  • I pretty much don't care since I only buy 10s of my players. It might affect some of the 78-80 Murray stuff for me as some 10s are out of my range there.
Eddie Murray, Will Clark and Darin Erstad collector, check my wantlists for what I need.

  • the more pops i see, the more i realize how rare the .5's will be

Reminds me of NGC (coins) star system. If a coin is stellar for the grade, but not technically qualified forthe next bump, it got a star. Very very few stars.
