Does ESPN Classic play many old baseball games?

I was able to DVR the 69 & 71 world series. It was awesome to see Clemente play. I was only 4 when this series happened and I don't remember him playing.

Unfortunately, for the most part, all they show are old World Series of Poker events....They could do so much more with this channel than they do.

I can't wait for the MLB Channel to start up (most likely lots of classic games then).

  • i dont even get espn classic anymore lol
  • Every time I put it on, they have a poker game, one of last week's "Instant classic" college games (the sport depends on the season) or one of those "Behind the Lines" shows on. They could have a daily schedule if they wanted too, and that would get more viewers. @hrs of football, 2 hrs of baseball, 2 hrs of auto racing, 2 hrs of basketball, etc. and rotate the slots so that everyone could catch their favourite sport at least one day per week, depending on their work schedule.

(psst - I'm going to yell) I COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember a few years ago, the first day that I got ESPN classic, I came home from work and I turned it on and they were playing the 1952 World Series. There they were - Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra right there in front of me. I thought, "This is great." Now, they show nothing but crap. I probably haven't watched that channel since that first year that I had it. IT IS TERRIBLE! They could do so more more with that channel.

I think it just depends on how much one watches it.

I saw a '55 WS game a few years ago - since TV was young - the quality isn't that good but still just hearing the names was cool - for those who don't remember that was the Dodger's year - the ONLY victory they had while in Brooklyn, NY - so very special.

Also, I did see the one game playoff between the Yanks and Red Sox from 1978 - ya know Bucky Dent!

And they've shown regular season games also - just keep an eye out.

  • When I first subscribed to DirecTV, the channel was called Classic Sports Network. On a daily basis, they would show original broadcasts of MLB games mostly from the 1970's and 1980's. They also showed NBA, NCAA basketball and NCAA football orginal broadcasts of games primarily from the last 40 years. They also showed the old NFL Game of the Week shows that originally aired from 1969-1986. Overall, the programming was excellent. When ESPN initially purchased Classic Sports Network, the programming was still very good, but they slowly started to ruin the channel and, now, I think the programming is absolutely terrible. The channel has gone from being one of my favorites to one that I rarely watch anymore.

Even the 'Sportscentury' documentaries were good. Do they show them any more?
  • When classic first came out they used to show old World Series games ( the best being the '55 series) Now the channel sucks.

Also, don't forget to check Utube for baseball clips - the '55 Dodgers.

  • I sent them an e-mail asking why they don't show hockey games. They had the NHL contract for how long?

    I never heard squat.

All they show is WS of Poker (which I don't mind), American Gladiators and those two annoying doofs on Cheap Seats.

MTV used to show music videos, and ESPN classic used to show classic sports. Gotta love the corporate world.

The other day I turned on headline news, and for the first time in 20 years, it wasn't headline news. image

The apocalypse will truly be here the day I turn on Game Show Network and see Alex Trebek hawking timeshares.

The first season or two was good, but then when it got popular and they got a budget, it started to suck. Beamie, anyone? Beamie? For Christ's sake!
