Card displays....

I know at least a few of you have awesome displays for your cards and memorabilia, care to share some pix??? I'm going to put together a vintage Pittsburgh Steelers display later this year and I'm trying to get some good ideas.

Thanks!
Paul.

Do you guys have any "worries" about light fading the cards? I would assume they are not near any UV light?

    Sun never shines on mine...lol

My HOFers are now located in a large gun safe (much like yours Dave, thats where I actually got the idea..lol)...the case on the wall is now full of Jax Jaguars rookies..All PSA 10s...But I had the HOFer in that case for 3-4 years. Never in direct UV light, and never had any fade issues.

When I lived in Hawaii, I had a few cards displayed using small individual card stands. A couple would get direct sunlight during the day, and yes they did fade. These were 80s Topps cardstock.

The room has 2 windows....I keep the drapes closed 24-7. We have 3 lamps in the room..none hit the cases directly. I have had cards in the cases for several years, and have not noticed any damage. Does worry me though.

    Guys
Who makes those displays you use for your graded cards. Are they Pennzoni cases?

    Thanks.

Great stuff guys! Timely thread for me, as I've just started making cases for my card room. Here's one I made for my brother out of Bocote with Ash accents. The back is faux leather.

Regarding light damage and glass, I've done just a little bit of research but here's what I've found from various sites:

Regular glass only blocks about half (47%) of UV-A. Glass does block UV-B effectively (100%).

You can mitigate UV at the source, or at the point of concern. It might be cheaper, depending on your lights, to put these on your fixtures instead of a huge sheet on your case.

There are at least 8 different types of glass available: standard glass, non-glare glass, standard UV glass, non-glare UV glass, standard acrylic, non-glare acrylic, standard UV acrylic, and non-glare UV acrylic. For some reason, prices are difficult to find online. All the sites I've found say to call for a quote or go to a local framing shop.

Here's a site that details some of the UV glass options on the market.

These guys seem to have a wide range of products. Their dealer locater is under contruction, and no prices are to be found on their site.

Only one site I found actually has prices. If I'm reading this correctly, for the top of the line "museum glass," you're looking at about $100 for a 32"x40" sheet.

Has anyone else done research into this? I'd love to learn more.

can't supply any photos but I have three display cases that I purchased from a card store when it closed in my basement. These are six feet long and about four foot high. I have my starting lineups, autographed baseballs and other items including old trophies from my bowling and softball days...also my kids are using it for their trophies from sports as they are getting older.....I just pulled all of the pictures and posters off the walls since I'm in the process of remodeling my basement and when all is done I'll borrow my nephews digital camera and snap some shots....
  • Beautiful rooms everyone!

I'm afraid to keep any memorabilia at home. So, the web is all I have to display:

Great pictures all and thanks for sharing! I love to see the displays of others.
  • I think displaying your cards in the light will only damage them, so thats why I think the best way of displaying your cards is the PSA Set Registry! image

You get to look at them anytime you want, without damaging them, and you also get to share them with other collectors, which I think is a big part of collecting.

  • I am very impressed with the manner how you have displayed and mounted the PSA graded cards. I want to do the same.
Would you be willing to share with me the construction of the display?
    Thank you,

people that dedicate shrines to sports memorobilia always remind me of this guy. a gun safe or safe deposit box seems a lot smarter.
