Is the 1977/1978 decision an admission that PCGS have been over grading modern coins?

Comments

  • Why would not giving bonus points for DCAM coins after 1977 be an admission that PCGS overgrades? I don't follow your logic on this one.

  • I'm a little lost here too. Maybe johnkee can clarify this.

Or, does this mean that those rare non-DCAM modern proofs that Braddick likes so much are going to be more valuable? Braddick, any comments?

  • I have a very nice 1999-S Jefferson graded PR69 CAM .... based on his comments, this coin should command a premium in such an unlofty grade...or should I send it in for a re-grade as his statement infers that only DCAM is given out on the modern coins?

  • FullSteps,

Good call. I sent in a 2001 proof set and only half of the coins got DCAM's. Everything else was CAM. Must have been a mistake on PCGS's part. Wonder if I can get the difference in the E-Bay price from them for their minor mistake in labeling.

I think he means (I hate to say what others mean, but...) that a pr70dcam isn't really that nice of a coin. Really no better than an older pr68dcam.
