The Official Favorite Modern Set Thread.....

I know most of you guys are vintage junkies but I was wondering what everyones favorite modern set produced in the last decade is. It can be for aesthetic appeal, the names on the checklist alone or any other random attributes.

Mine would have to be 2005 UD Origins Baseball AUTOS. How can you not love this set? Some old timers mixed in with young guys non Bowman Rookie years or second year cards like Prince, Chase Utley, David Wright, Kazmir, Ryan Howard etc. There are also two different subset in the product, Origins and Old Judge with autos for each player in both sets.

Have I mentioned ON CARD autos? Right now I'm working to just finish the Rays Set of autos [Crawford, Upton, Kazmir, and Huff (yuk)] but I have a feeling I'll be picking up a few other autos and may even chase the whole auto set over time other than some of the pricey ones. Some of the names on the auto checklist include: Bobby Doerr, Bob Feller, Brooks Robinson, Carlos Beltran (only 5 printed for some reason), Utley, Wright, Doc Gooden, Ryan Howard, Jim Palmer, Jason Bay, Johan Santana, Griffey Jr., Miggy Cabrera, Mike Schmidt, Oswalt, Molitor, Peavy, Tony Gwynn, Cal Ripken, and a bunch of other all stars.

Here's what I have so far.... (sorry for the ebay scans on some, I haven't had time to scan much lately)

Great thread! My favorite modern set is actually a subset. I collect the 2003 bazooka standups. I need only 5 more and I will have the complete set. I have a box of 03 Bazooka coming and hopefully i'll get one that I need.

And because I am making that set i will try to complete the base set as well.

    Good for you.

    Good topic Goot!

Since it's the last decade - I would definitely say 2002 Topps Heritage with the 53T design.

It's my favorite postwar set followed by the 52T set.

I like the vintage feel with the modern players - I have immense respect for the vintage collectors and the knowledge they have and share here but the modern collectors are our future.

Moreover, if ya follow baseball - doing a modern set keeps ya in tune with the game today. I like the chase for autos also. Even tho I'm not that lucky - maybe this year!

    That's a nice set Goot.

I really enjoy thumbing through my 2003 Topps Base Set. I love the blue borders and the action shots are top notch. Definitely, one of Topps stronger sets from the decade.

  • Mine would be the 2006 Bowman Heritage. At the time I couldn't really afford an expensive set to put together. I was able to piece together what I was told is called a Master set. I'm not sure if it is because I'm missing 1 of 1's and printing plates. But, I was able to piece together all of the base, the rainbow, the foil, the mini's, the game used, and all the auto's. It was a ton of fun to accomplish.
