The medal was originaly struck in the '20s when aviation was just starting out The description that came with it states: On the obverse, a nude adolescent, symbolizing the then-nascent pursuit of aviation, ties a pair of winged sandals to her ankles in preparation of departing her lofty perch. The Latin legend FERIAM SIDERA means “I will reach the stars”
I've always liked the birds on the back of that one . I've seen the restrike on ebay a few times, but (someone-I-don't-remember-who) pointed out that they can still be had from the Monnaie de Paris: Linkage. It took me awhile to find the English version, but I did, so hopefully I will have one soon. I'd love an original some day, but until then...--thanks for reminding me of it!!
She's a big girl 90 mm BTW Someone pointed out that you can get one from the Paris Mint but I got mine here cool medal looks like the prices are close after you figure exchange/shipping
