Share your alternatives to ebay

With all of the ebay bologna, there are bound to be auction sites making it more attractive to try and obtain business and a following. If anyone has a site they may try or looks interesting, please share.

For a while I had used Bidville.com a bit. Decent success if you price your items accordingly.

Edited to say not to use Wagglepop!

The probability of success is low, I agree. But who knows, one site that is shared could end up being the diamond in the rough. One day, it's going to come along.

Please share your alternative sites.

    Create your own web site.

Cost of hosting can be as low as $1.99 a month.

Use open source software such as Zen-Cart or osCommerce (free) to create your store. Both are very easy to use if you have a shred of computer knowledge and have PayPal payment modules included. I am in the process of building my site at the moment.

It is extremely hard to compete with the Bay. Remember how bad Yahoo auctions were!?

There are NO viable commercial options.

Your own website is the ONLY option.

Google-Base and Yahoo keywords will drive customers
to your site. You can also use EBAY to drive customers
    your way.

Yahoo auctions were at one time in a position to give ebay a run for the money, sadly they just did not (for whatever reason) I remember getting some decent cards and coins there. Then the thieves took over and the place went to the crapper.

It would be nice if someone like google or microsoft would step in, ebay needs some competition.

    Good for you.
  • Yahoo does not have auctions any longer.

Wagglescam the guy who owns it was booted from Ebay. He tried to open this site in 2004, but all the credit card information got hacked from the initial database and he postponed the re-opening and he tries to deny it ever happened. Yeah I trust that clown. I signed up and noticed a trend with feedback. Most of the items sold there are bought by some of the larger sellers and many of these items turn back up on Ebay. Three of the largest sellers there based on feedback are based within 20 miles of the owners home. They are also some of the largest buyers there.

Think about this scam.. We get 1000 sellers paying 9.95 a month. Thats 10000 a month. We go and randomly buy alot of junk from these sellers to make them think they are actually selling here. We buy say 2500 to 5000 a month of this junk and resell it on Ebay we still come out way ahead. The "success" of the sellers will in turn draw in more sellers.

I sent an email to the founder regarding my suspicions and evidence I had backing it to the owner with in 30 minutes I was banned from the site and the email I got back simply said "prove it." Makes me think I was onto something there.

Google has already said they are not going into the auction business. This union of Microsoft and Yahoo might produce a new site. Time will tell.

Last I looked, wagglePOOP only had about 130 stores.
Most of those may belong to the site-owner and his
    coconspirators.

The site is a total waste. ZERO traffic.

I have stuff on eCrater, but it's like a parking lot that needs no work except for initial listing. I have only sold 1 item in 12 months, but that could be because of the prices ive set.

It seems you're talking more about selling?

Buying - I really think ebay's the best/safest right now - even with the occasional aggrevation.

I just had a problem with Sandiegowill for the first time - it's still unresolved - I'll report about it when I'm concluded.

On buying - there's plenty of people one can buy nice vintage rather than using ebay but in this case, it won't be about saving money but rather: 1. getting something hard to find. 2. getting good customer service without fear of being taken in some way.

    Mike! Welcome back!

Yes, I definately mean to sell. I agree with all of your points on ebay being the place to buy.

Sandiegowill...I purchased from him once and was not too thrilled myself. Took forever to get the item I purchased from him. I did eventually get it though. I hope that works out well for you.

I would sell on sportlots if their fees werent so high. Im not into posting 1,000,000 cards and hoping that 20.00 of them sell that month only to have 15.00 of it go in their fees.
  • EBAY ROCKS!

it is so far ahead of the game, that nobody will ever catch them!

other site are havens for crooks --see craigs list, home of prostitutes and scam artists....

as the EBAY community advances, it should be easier and easier to weed out the crooks....

i happen to be very comfortable buying from EBAY....ya they bang youout selling stuff, but where else can you reach 20,000,000 potential buyers?>
