Platinum Bar Indentification ?? - Perth Mint

Hi everyone,

I'm new to buying platinum. Anyway, these square bars that come with the platinum coin issues ....are they platinum, or just what? ...if so, what's the fineness on them?

The following photo was for a 1988 Australia Kaola 1/4 oz platinum coin ....in a wooden box.

Much appreciated if anyone knows.

Thanks,

MarkAZ

I can't be sure about the 1988 series, but according to the Perth Mint website, the final series Koala coins in 2005 had a rectangular silver medal. I suspect they've been consistent, and yours is silver, too.

  • I second that. The bar is very likely to be silver.

  • ok,

I got it in now .....in person it appears to be neither platinum or silver. A dark lead colored metal, like pencil lead, but harder.

It did give good information on the little thing .....'maximum mintage 12,000'.

I think that's why I got such a good deal on it, because most of the time the guys bid really high on the platinum coins with high mintages, but treat ones like this ...like an undesirable situation.

    Thanks.
