Manning vs. Manning

Remember last year the Giants played the Colts to open the season on Monday Night football? At the time I said to my son who had just started rooting for the Giants that someday they might play each other in the Super Bowl. Who would have thought at that time that Peyton would win the Super Bowl last season and Eli tonight. A Manning vs. Manning SB is now not that far fetched.

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

I think PEYTON is better than Eli BUT Peyton faced the Bears in the Super Bowl, Eli faced the undefeated Pats and BRADY! They were a wild card team! Dallas, Green Bay, and PATS!
  • I can't say enough how liittle ole Eli stepped up. And to win the Super Bowl and MVP at an age 5 years younger than his brother. WOW!

  • SC, I remember that game. Eli outplayed Peyton too as I recall despite the outcome.
  • thegemmintman, this board is off kilter. I responded to your post and it was time stamped earlier than yours:

Eli's win is MUCH more impressive, basically he had and old man, a rookie and and a hobbled vet at the WR position. Peyton had
hall of famers and one of the best TE's in the league. He had fantastic RB's and a great O line.

It might be unfair to call Peyton a player who should of won more rings, but he has had to play the Patsies every year. Im not ready to call
either great yet. I'd like to see Peyton do it with less talent and Eli to continue his success next year.

To use Hoopster's argument, Peyton had much more talented personnel around him than Eli did. Boss, Tyree, Smith, Toomer, etc, are all role players who made huge plays. Plax was the only star receiver Manning had, and he played hurt the whole year.

  • Also, Peyton Manning MVP was like an after thought, almost a given, to the Veteran Star QB who was expected to win the Super Bowl and finally won it. If I remember correctly there was no clear cut MVP in the game so they gave it to Peyton. Eli in only his 4th season deserved it more than Peyton but it could have also gone to Tyree or one of the Defensive guys.

Peyton last year led the comeback against New England in one of the great games in AFC championship history and he beat Baltimore on the road etc. The thing is Eli had as many TDs as turnovers this year, gets hot in the playoffs and wins the title, not unlike the Steelers 2 years ago. It's a little too early to say that Eli is better than Peyton due to this one year (in which only his playoff performance was great, not the whole season).

I do think that there is a better than 50% chance of the two playing each other in a SB.
