Home Sports Talk

Can we stop with the Brady-Zeuss talk now??

Brady's first Super Bowl was gift wrapped by the refs...they should have never gotten past the Raiders.

He is fortunate Scott Norwood was not his teammate in his others.

Thank goodness his luck ran out today. Luck. Yes. The ONLY thing separating him from Marino.

Any one of those lucky factors listed above go against him, and he is viewed no better than Marino, AS IT SHOULD BE...because he is no better than Marino. JUST IN BETTER CIRCUMSTANCES AND BETTER LUCK AND FORTUNE.

Luck in calls, luck in a good defense, luck in the other team not catching any breaks. Yes. That is what separates him from Marino.

Why do I say Marino? Because football is a TEAM game. Championships are won by an entire team with great players on both sides of the ball, and all playing well at the opportune time. Last time I checked Tom Brady has won ZERO Super Bowls...the New England Patriots THREE.

And I am so freakin sick of fans and announcers saying a QB is measured by titles when they talk from one side of their mouth...and then out of the other side of their mouth they talk about how important it is to play as a TEAM! A TEAM!

Yeah, you can measure him by titles if you wish, but that doesn't make him better than a superior or equal QB who has not won a title!

Brady has ZERO titles with a mediocore defense, and even zero titles with just one call in the Raiders going the other way...and having Scott Norwood be his teammate. Then we would not have to hear him become Zeuss. He is not.

  • LUCK goes a long way in sports. For example, when Montana connected with Clark to win the NFC Championship in '82, Montana admitted he was actually trying to throw the ball out of bounds. It was LUCK that Dwight Clark happened to be there and grabbed the ball....and that one lucky play was the starting point of the 49ers dynasty of the 80's.

In the '80's, people were sick of hearing all about Dan Marino and Joe Montana...but the haters got over it and when those two retired (and stopped beating the other people's teams), people were able to look back and recognize greatness when they saw it.

Tom Brady is the same way. Sure, everyone who's not a NE fan now will think he's over-rated...and ten/fifteen years from now those same people will be recalling how great he was.

I'm not a NE fan by any means, and I too am SICK AND TIRED of hearing the hype surrounding him, but I'm also smart enough to recognize greatness when I see it. He's probably not the best QB in the league right now...and definitely not of all time, but he's still a truly amazing player.

I will agree with you that it's TEAMS that win, not individuals. Every time an announcer says something like a QB is measured by his titles, I think of guys like Dan Marino who had none...and is often considered one of the top 5 of all time.

Brady did come through, however, when called upon in this game leading his team to a go-ahead TD late in the 4th...and if Eli (and Tyree) hadn't come up HUGE on that last drive, everyone would be saying what another great comeback by Brady and the Pats.

One of the sickest plays I've ever seen. Eli was dead meat, but he somehow got away, bombed it and Tyree catches it on his helmet cleanly. Incredible.

Great players make their own luck.

Pure luck has nothing to do with it.

That guy Brady is an elite player and good things happen to elite players

Like Jeter being in the right place at the right time, Brady is the real deal.

Yes he needs to have a great O line to allow him to stay in the pocket, that goes w/o saying.

    Good for you.

Geez, what a sourpuss. I guess 50 TD passes was all luck too.

Tell us how much Brady sucks in 10 years when he retires with 6 or 7 Super Bowl rings.

Agree with Steve and sparks. It's not by accident that it seems great teams get the bounces to go their way while bad teams seem to have everything go against them. Onbiously, football is a team sport, and one player, no matter how great cannot overcome poor talent or personnel around him, and there are many fantastic players who played on bad teams who never sniffed a Super Bowl (Sanders comes to mind), just as there were many great players who had excellent players around him (Montana comes to mind), but in our society we measure greatness by championships, and no one can dispute that Brady is one of the best QBs of all time. Terry Bradshaw threw as many picks as TDs and had a career passing rating in the low 70s, but all anyone remembers is that he won 4 Super Bowls, and that's the way it should be, IMO.
