Guess he learned that from his WR Randy Moss.

no suprise there. i know he was probably disappointed, etc, but no reason to leave. he knew there was time left.

He could have 10 rings, but he will never be in the same class as Noll or Walsh!

I thought he was walking on the field. Looked to me like he was conceding the last second and going across to pay his respects. I just glanced up (playing a table on Party Poker) so maybe I didn't see it right.

He did...he decided to congratulate Tom Coughlin early, and then when the referee explained that there was still time on the clock and another play needed to be run, Belichick went to the locker room. Just goes to prove what a bum and poor sport Belichick really is image

  • Agreed. He knew darn well that the game was not over and another play had to be run.

Get your players in line and run the play.

Not a good show of sportsmanship to go along with some of the other post game stuff from him.

    Suck it up Bill.

ah, thanks for clarifying that. I missed that BS. Completely classless, and totally in character for Belichick.

Typical unsportsmanlike conduct for Bill...nothing new in that regard, as Jets fans know from experience.

Belichek didn't show bad sportsmanship by walking off the field early. They ran the last few seconds off, and then added a second. I don't think there's anything to read into that.
Congrats to the Giants and their fans. What a game!

    It was pretty weak.

  • I only saw a few sound bites after the game with Belichick, but did he even congratulate the Giants?
  • Not that big of a deal. It looked like the game was over. All the photog's were out there. It just gives people on message boards something to complain about.
  • Belch Check says to Giants "No congrats from me"

The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

He did congratulate them; it was the first thing he said.

  • Oh. I guess I missed it during the press conference. The only thing I heard him say is the Giants and Patriots played well.

    From Mosely's blog on espn.com:

Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn't stick around long enough to watch the Giants celebrate their 17-14 victory. When Tom Brady's Hail Mary pass to Randy Moss fell incomplete with a second to go, Belichick made a beeline to greet Giants coach Tom Coughlin before proceeding directly to the locker room.

The only problem is that NFL rules require that the entire game be played out. Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady were long gone, but the Patriots defense had to jog back onto the field. After the game, linebacker Junior Seau told me he was almost to the locker room when someone said the game wasn't over. Seau came jogging out of the tunnel for the final play. Belichick cooled his heels in the locker room.

He was asked why he left the field with time left on the clock, but I don't think he understood the question. By my count, Belichick didn't have an answer longer than eight words in his post-game news conference.

In his opening statement, he said: "Congratulations to the Giants. They made some plays there at the end and we didn't. It's disappointing."

He then repeated eight different variations of that statement. The smug look that has helped make him one of the great villains in sports was on display, but his mind wasn't. It was like the questions weren't even registering.

One of the players told me that Belichick couldn't come up with anything to say in the post-game locker room. He basically acknowledged that it was a disappointing loss and headed to the interview podium.

    Hey bosox1976,

Well then I stand corrected. What I heard must have been only part of the press conference. Besides that Mike and the "Mad Dog" did not hear it but maybe they didn't hear the whole press conference either.

Belichick knew what was going on...he was miffed that his team had lost and didn't want to go back on the field for that reason and that reason alone. Why doesn't he just admit that rather than his usual BS responses. Of course the reason he won't admit he knew there was time left on the clock is he doesn't want to be fined again. Wonder if the league will fine him, but I doubt it.

I don't blame him for leaving. He all ready went out and congratulated Coughlin.

Personally, it looked like to me that they added time back on to the clock because they wanted the last play to be the kneel down. Makes for better TV. The clock stopped at 2 seconds. Then ran off to 0. Then it was like someone said, "Hey, we want to get a shot of the Giants taking a victory kneel. Let's get everyone off the field so we can get the shot. This is gonna be great on the highlight reel" There was no reason to add time back to the clock. They were just wasting everyone's time by doing that.

I've got no beef with Bill for not being in the mood to play TV actor. He congratulated his opponent then left. Who wants to lose the Superbowl and have to stick around for a bunch of BS for the TV network?

  • No class!! They already had the victory counted before the game. They just forgot to tell the Giants and their fans. He did congratulate Tom and he said (like in Forest Gump) I gotta go pee.

  • what a sore loser....he didnt even have the class to shake (and congratulate Tom Coughlin)

No kidding. You guys are brutal! image Have some compassion for poor "hoodie". Speaking of hoodies -- the red one has got to go (bad luck) -- he should stick with the grey.
