If Eli and the Giants Win the Super Bowl....

they will be the talk of the town for the next 2 centuries. LOL

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

Then future players will refuse to be drafted by certain teams and get away with it.

I would rank it right behind the Jets winning superbowl III.

I don't know about that. I might rank it higher. 7 weeks ago the Giants might have not even made the playoffs. And to beat a historic 18-0 team who has already won 3 Super Bowls. I would have to rank it equal or slightly above the Jets beating the Baltimore Colts.

Enough of that pic already huh? Have we not all got caught in a pic as we were in between eye blinks? Come on now ..... if its OK for the Patriots to cheat because "everybody" does it then it is OK for Eli to pound some and get caught between eye blinks. Right? Ohhhh thats right, EVERYTHING New York is held to a higher standard. Whoops .... my bad !

You must be kidding! Sure, a Giants upset would be huge, but no way would it match the Jets upsetting the Colts in 1969. First off, the Jets were 17 pt underdogs in that game, and secondly, prior to that victory, the AFL was not even considered to be even on the same level as a professional league to the NFL at that time. The Jets were the reason for the AFL becoming the AFC. Let's not get carried away with all the hyperbole here...at 12 pt. underdogs, the Giants aren't even as big of a dog as these very same Patriots were when they were 14 pt. underdogs vs. the Rams, when they won their first Super Bowl.

What??? LOL - The NFL-AFL merger was set in place a few years before the Jets-Colts Super Bowl was played....You should know that as much as you know about football. What the heck are you talking about, unless I misinterpreted your comment?

The Jets were not the only team from the AFL that year that could have upended the Colts. Kansas City comes to mind ... but alas ... the Jets DID IT and get ALL kudos. Super Bowl III was really the last straw more then it was the catalyst. The AFL already was on par with the NFL as far as talent went ...

Prior to the Jets upset of the NFL champion 17 pt favorite Baltimore Colts, the AFL was most certainly considered by the public and football fans in general a lesser league than the NFL. The Jets victory legitimized the AFL and ushered in the new NFL, where both conferences (AFC and NFC) were considered equal parts of one league. Of course, it's easy now in retrospect to say the AFL wasn't as weak as most thought, but that doesn't change the magnitude and significance of that Jets win over the Colts!

    grote,

The ONLY point I will debate is that Super Bowl III was really the last straw more then it was the initial "eye opener". At the time of SP III the AFL was already considered on par by many but certainly not all considering the huge success at drawing top flight talent.

    Dan,

Yes, in hindsight, it's easy to say that the AFL (AFC) was "on par"with the NFL at that time, but the truth is that NO ONE (other than Joe Namath, LOL) thought the AFL champion Jets had a prayer against the mighty Colts, and the Jets win undoubtedly changed the perception of the majority of football fans at that time. The first two Super Bowls were routs and everyone expected the Colts to mow down the Jets from that lesser AFL in similar fashion.

That is correct, Steve. My point, not clearly stated, obviously, was that the Jets victory legitimized the old AFL as it would become the AFC in what we all now know as the NFL.

Oh, and BTW, Santana will win the Cy Young this year, too! image

Agreed! And though I'm a Jets fan, I'd love nothing more than to see Brady and Bill grimacing as the clock winds down on their RUINED perfect season!

Well, I understand your perspective on the NFL-AFL merger, and frankly I thought you were going to mention Namath's $400,000 signing by the Jets, but that wouldn't have technically been correct either because there was a "salary war" going on between the NFL and AFL at the time...it was only a question of when somebody signed for say $400,000, not if.

Yes of course the Jets had something to do with the NFL-AFL merger but it was all the AFL teams combined not just the Jets, which I know you know that - not always easy getting complete thoughts out in a brief paragraph in an internet forum. I know you know football and football history quite well. If Stalin would have said this I wouldn't have even bothered to respond because he is such an ignorant putz when it comes to football history.

And yes, I'd love to see pretty boy Brady crying in Jessica's arms after the game saying, "Oh Jessica, I can't believe those big strong NFC guys beat us...wahhhhhhhhhh."
