Who likes Capped Bust Quarters? New pics of my 1822! Grade Revealed

dohdoh Posts: 6,457 ✭✭✭
I sure do! This is my new one; just came today courtesy of DLRC....you might have seen it in one of their recent auctions. 1822 is my favorite date and I just love the crusty surfaces! image Guess the grade if you'd like if you don't already know...it's a PCGS VF25. Those of you who guessed were right on! Edited to add: I added new pics...actually same pics with different background...I think they look pretty smooth

I've never understood why this is called the "capped bust" quarter, when the "cap" is quite a ways above the "bust." image

Wow, I guess - looks more like Joe O' Mickley's quarters - though I suppose his did not have much toning image

image but this is the only one I own. Found it in a dealers bargain box because of the light
"x" in a bad spot. Not that there is a good place for x's. I'm going after a large one
at an auction in a few weeks. Aaaand as usual my pics are very bad.

Wow, those are some impressive specimens.

The first 1822 has a very nice look. I'd also venture VF25.

Doh, I like your 1822 quarter and will say VF30. Bust quarters are great, but they are very, very tough to find in high grade and/or PQ examples. Halfs are so much more available in higher grades. I think that's the main reason you don't see as many posted.

joconner and bust collector.....uh, I guess those are decent examples! spectacular

Very nice 1822's guys. 1822's are very hard to find period and in problem free condition it's a real chore and very pricey.image
  • It's nice to see al these quarters................they are very difficult in many grades when locating choice examples.

This thread displays some of the finest bust quarters I have ever seen!
  • I want to answer the question Baley has asked concerning my name across my photographs. I will be using my name on all photos until a time comes to do otherwise and remove it. The above photographs you see pictured were from my personal collection, I chose to start putting my name across just recently because it lets people know I don't want them to use my photographs for their personal gain. I merely want to make sure my pictures don't get used in print without my permission and before I finish on my end with the two quarter books. Many of you already know I have worked extremely hard and spent quite a bit of money over the last 8-10 years traveling around the United States obtaining quarter pictures from dozens of collectors and dealers. I would have not had an opportunity to photograph many of these examples without confidentiality. I also have permission from many auction houses (with photo credits) to use their web photos and to take pictures from their catalogues if I need-which really helps! I have tried to do all this the right way by getting their written permission (and sometimes just by their word) to use for both quarter books. This is most important for the photo census book which will be in color. Many times over the years I have been asked to give pictures for study, blow-ups in die states or stages, for research for JRCS articles or when individuals volunteer to assist in my confidential research. This is where I ask permission for distribution. Unfortunately it has come to a point where I have found this is the "only way" to protect myself with my pictures being used elsewhere without permission...........................I hope you all understand.

Pictures can tell a thousand words. It is my hopes once the photo census book comes out some of you will write articles in JRCS or other sources. Since I took a long break to do the pics for the black and white Browning book I "hope" to finish the color book in 1-3 years. Yes, I know.......................it seems like forever and ever! Hold on.

By the way, I am only human, I make mistakes from time to time so please keep that in mind as it is not done on purpose to offend anyone.

    Long live bust quarters!

  • I love those quarters, although their larger sized sisters, the halves are less expensive, as they were minted in much higher quantities, and thus more attractive to me.

Hope I can say that George Earle and I both enjoyed having the finest 1806 B-7 before Rory took a pic of it.
