Some ebay dealers... ADDED GUYS INFO

I was totally stoked to buy 8 cards that I need for my set, until I noticed that he charges $4 per card to ship, with no combined shipping. To put it mildly I got angry at the guy. Here is the note that I sent to him:

<< <i>I was going to bid on 8 of your cards, until I saw your outlandish shipping policy. $32 for 8 cards? Well, I guess you know where you can stick that 32 bucks. May you find another incompetent sucker to fall for your shipping scam. It's dealers like you who make it to certain collecting forums. >>

Childish... yes. But jeez some of these dealers are crooks. Did I make a mistake for sending that note? I'm starting to feel a bit of message remorse

I don't think a seller like that will care what you think. He knows a sucker is born every minute.

Prolly a collector that is a wannabe dealer. Any "dealer" worth his salt does not charge such outlandish shipping. Most probably a wannabe. I do think you should have not sent the mssage.

Just because a person sells cards does not make them a dealer.

Also, can we have a link or at the least an ebay user name. That way we can see this Ebay seller.

I might have contacted him and explained to him that I was interested in 8 of his cards and requested a better deal on combined shipping first, you never know he might have worked out a deal with you? Maybe not, but it is his policy and you have a right to not deal with him because of it.
  • Sorry forgot the scumbags info...

Reading his negatives (and the retaliatory negs he left), the guy seems like a real loser. Be happy you didn't buy those 8 cards as they were likely trimmed. Looks like he "made the grade" with an exacto knife on a few cards he's sold...
  • I picked up a couple of t206's the other night and when the invoice came through I noticed the seller charged me 8.00 shipping for the two cards. He didn't state anything in the description about a price break for additional cards won so I didn't complain and just paid. For the most part sellers will discount additional cards won, so I was not real happy with the 4.00 per card charge. I didn't take the time to email and ask about the costs for extra cards won so its a lesson learned. If more sellers would just state their shipping policy up front in the listing that would help.

Why get all upset? He states his terms in the auction.. If you dont like it, just skip his auctions and move to the next guy...

If you were driving and saw a sign for oil changes $50.. Would you stop your car, pull over and walk into the shop and throw a tantrum? or would you just move along to the next place that charges $25..

With feedback like his, he's lucky anyone bids on his stuff.
His shipping charges are clearly stated. image
How is he still on Ebay? Isn't it against their policy to let sellers gouge on shipping?

I agree with Roger, just move along. He wil get his.

  • I dealt with this seller about a year ago and emailed him if he would discount if I won multiple auctions he said yes, he would give a shipping break after 10 auctions won. I won 11 at that time I believe it 3.00 a card won (PSA graded). My mistake was not asking how much of a discount instead of 3.00 a card for shipping he reduced it to 2.60 a card (ouch) 28.60 for 11 cards dlvd went ahead and paid him and have never bought another card from him. I posted this on the set registry forum and instead of leaving neutral or negative feedback, I left none. Look on the bright side or dark side (you pick) after feb 20 sellers will not be allowed to leave nothing but positive feedback for buyers. (which sucks) IMO. but that is another subject all together.

With ebay's large increase coming in final value fees, and considering there are no fees against freight charges, crap like this will likely become more prevalent.
  • this guy is a clown. total ripoff on shipping.

MOST folks will combine shipping if you ask nicely, but it seems like this guys idea of a discount is 40 cents.

I agree with Roger here, but if they are cards you really want and have been looking for its a different story.

Perk posted that he would have emailed the guy asking for a discount, thats what I would have done also. If he didnt respond or said no, then you can either move on, or give him both barrells. If their cars you reeeeealy want, you suck it up and pay the shipping.

Actually that change does not go into effect until May all the others go in effect in Feb.

    From one of his listings:

Shipping and handling is $4.00 per single card purchased.
Also I don't combine shipping and handling charges for multiple items purchased.
    Thank You

Ok, so he is at least up front about it, my question is when 'sellers' have this as their business model do they ship the cards all in one package, or do they ship them seperatley. Also, as a 'buyer' do you pay for them seperatley if using PayPal?

I ask these questions because when ever I 'deal' items I always try and give my customer a fair shake, I discount and combine up to a maximum of 6.00 and then I usually upgrade the service used from 1st class to priority.

This guy with his 97.7% feedback in all prababilty leaves money on the table each and every time he lists things simply because his business model stinks. He loses people that will usually buy multiple items I would think.

    Good for you.
  • If ebay booted all the sellers who gouge on shipping, they would lose 10% or more of their sellers
many volume sellers use shipping as a "profit center"
    but not from me
I just refuse to pay any "gouger" no matter how bad I want the item & I email them & let them know I'm not bidding for that reason

    Just say NO !!!!!!!!!!!

If he won't combine shipping, pay for each auction separately through PayPal. It's an extra 35 cents each time he loses to their fees.

    I'm afraid you're rigtht!
  • This is as bad as you favorite seller BBCEXCHANGE charging me $5.00 to ship a $7.00 card. I needed the 1 of 1 card for a player set, so I did not mind paying the $5.00. He offers to discount the $5.00 shipping on multiple wins, but does not mention if there is a max shipping amount. I understand that all the board members will jump in to defend the seller by saying he has expenses, he has overhead, don't bid. if you don't agree. I just hate sellers using shipping to make a few extra bucks.

    Yup.

For years, I have offered "FREE" shipping in ALL merch categories.
IOW, I pay the FVF to EBAY on the freight.

Soon, I will experiment, in some categories, with lowering retail
BIN prices and going with a flat-rate mailing fee. I will make more,
the buyer will pay a little more, and EBAY will get ZIP on my S&H.

BUT, the best window of opportunity comes for PowerSellers with
high-end math skills. Under the new FB scheme, PSers with DSRs
of 4.8 or better will receive a 15% discount on FVFs. (4.6 DSRs
    earn a 5% discount.) ...........................WELL,

.......to heck with those discounts. Here's why:

PSers who offer FREE shipping or reasonable shipping are routinely
being given rates of less than 4 in the S&H DSR. Therefore, they
LOSE NOTHING by raising S&H fees SUBSTANTIALLY. In FACT, they
will make hundreds of dollars a month more by "waiving" any
    discounts and RAISING their S&H.

(AuctionBytes estimates that a seller earning $300 in FVF discounts
would earn $1200 by simply adjusting his S&H fee up by an amount
that would still be in the "reasonable range.")

More unintended consequences... courtesy of EBAY's nitwits.

he also would have sent a 100.00 card for the same amount.

I do not see where the value of the card matters.
