The phrase comes from my wife, whom upon seeing one of my more recent purchases (this 1887 Jubilee Bust Double-Florin) stated: "you need another one of that coin, like you need a hole in the head!" Frankly, I wasn't surprised by her comment, but the fact that she noticed that I had this exact coin already; 6 of them to be exact

Anyone have a "hole in the head" coins, ones that is the exact year, type and mintmark (if applicable) as the others; but you seem to buy more anyway?

.........and yes, Lord M., your holey hat counts. You may indeed hold the record for holes in your head when wearing that hat!

For a while I had 6 x 1873M Sovereigns, 4 in MS60, a MS61 and MS62

Hard date to get in any sort of brilliant condition, lots seem to have cabinet friction, marks, weak strike or all of the above

Am down to just the MS61 and MS62 keepers

The pix aren't mine...just scarfed them from the Net, but I do have several dozen of each of these types. Figuring out varieties is something I'll get to someday...just part of my retirement planning for now. The only interest my wife takes in my various collections seems to be when the bills come in for the vault space at the bank. Her dad, on the other hand, seems sort of impressed by the high-bore Dalton silver and the stories behind them (why they were needed, etc.). My siblings have always wondered what sort of chromosomal defect I ended up with that turned me into a collector but spared them...great thread topic right there!

Aw, heck yeah. Let's see...

For a while I was collecting both NGC proofs and PCGS specimens of Romanian 1867 coinage... ditched the NGCs.

Several Baden Death 2 Mark pieces in MS65-67.

Scads of 1880-S and 1881-S Morgan dollars... of course all have different color toning.

Bunches of 1972-73 toned Canadian silver dollars...

I've thought about picking up dupes of various and sundry fractional farthings.
